PS6 will cost half as much as Xbox Magnus according to an insider

Recent statements from Xbox executive Sarah Bond about the next Xbox have sparked discussion, particularly in light of previous comments from Phil Spencer about avoiding expensive consoles. While Spencer stated in 2024 that they wouldn’t grow the market with $1,000 devices, the Xbox Series X was released for $999, and now Bond is talking about the upcoming Xbox Magnus as a high-end product. Leaks suggest the Magnus will cost more than $1,000, but the PlayStation 6 is expected to be significantly more affordable.

PS6 will cost half of what the Xbox Magnus does

Tom, from the Moore’s Law is Dead podcast, recently said the upcoming Xbox Magnus – a device that combines console and PC features – will probably cost between $1000 and $1500. This price estimate is also supported by another leaker, KeplerL2, who usually shares information on the NeoGaf forum. This time, however, KeplerL2 posted on X, referencing earlier comments made by Phil Spencer.

KeplerL2, a source of leaks, said the Xbox Magnus will likely cost around $1,200, which matches earlier predictions from Tom. They estimate the PlayStation 6 will be priced at $600. According to KeplerL2, the Xbox Magnus will be more expensive because it’s expected to have more memory, and its cooling system and motherboard will be more complex and costly to manufacture.

Many commenters expressed skepticism about a claim that the PS6 would cost just $600. They pointed out that the PS5 Pro is already priced at $750, making a $600 PS6 seem unlikely. This doubt was fueled by previous reports suggesting Sony’s handheld, the PS6 Canis, might cost around $500.

Tom mentioned that Sony wants to keep the price reasonable and encourage PlayStation 4 owners to upgrade to the new console. We’ll only know for sure if Sony intends to do this when the console is officially revealed.
