A recently discovered way to jailbreak the PlayStation 5 is unique because it seems to require a physical copy of a Star Wars game to function.
This report comes after a PlayStation 5 (PS5) system key was leaked on December 31, 2025. This leak reportedly gives hackers a much deeper look into the console’s software, allowing them to find security flaws that were previously unknown.
As Twisted Voxel pointed out, this finding has sparked new ideas about how to jailbreak the PS5, with one theory focusing on how the console reads PS4 game discs.
Jailbreaking a PS5 involves removing Sony’s software limitations to allow the use of unauthorized applications or access to restricted system features. However, it’s important to know this can be risky and violates Sony’s terms of service.
PS5 exploit sparks $500 Star Wars game eBay listings
The security flaw doesn’t come from the game’s files themselves. It works by exploiting how the PS5 verifies and loads discs, a feature used to play older PS4 games. Specifically, it uses the physical disc version of the game Racer Revenge, which uses a different part of the system than downloaded versions of the game.
Recently, a discovered glitch is causing prices for the game to surge on eBay, going from around $50 to as much as $500 as people try to profit from it. This isn’t new – we’ve seen PlayStation games become much more valuable before. For example, PS4 consoles with the demo ‘P.T.’ still installed became highly sought after and expensive after it was removed from the PlayStation Store.

As of now, there isn’t a publicly available tool to jailbreak the console, and the reported method hasn’t been confirmed by anyone outside of online discussions. Sony hasn’t made any official statement about the leaked ROM keys or the exploit itself.
Keep in mind that modifying your PS5’s software (jailbreaking) goes against Sony’s rules and could lead to being banned from online services or losing access to online features.
