I was browsing the PlayStation Store and noticed some new images hinting at a possible “Cross-Buy” feature! It looks like Sony might be planning to let us buy games once and play them on different platforms. I first saw it shared by Amethxst on X, and Dealabs, a really trustworthy source for leaks, confirmed it too, so it seems pretty likely!
Dealabs reports that Sony introduced “Cross-Buy” tags way back in June 2025, but it’s unclear exactly what that means. Microsoft already does something similar: their “cross-buy” feature lets you play Xbox games on PCs, often through cloud streaming, or on other devices Microsoft considers part of the Xbox ecosystem, like the ROG Ally X handheld.
With Sony now releasing more of its PlayStation games on PC after initially launching them on PS5, could they offer a similar cross-platform benefit as Microsoft? It’s uncertain, but Sony did previously have a ‘Cross-Buy’ feature for PS Vita. This meant buying a game on PS3 or PS4 would often get you the same game on PS Vita – and vice versa – letting players enjoy their purchases on multiple platforms. While that program was discontinued, it was a popular perk for PS Vita owners.
Since a portable PS5 is reportedly being developed, offering cross-buy – letting players use the same game on both their home console and the handheld – could generate excitement for the new device.
PlayStation Plus Premium members can now enjoy cloud streaming on their PS Portal handheld, as the feature has officially launched after a year of testing. The cloud game library has grown to nearly 3,000 titles, and Sony has added several new features to improve the streaming experience. While details about the Cross-Buy program are still upcoming, this update is great news for PS Portal users.
