PS4 Games the are Fun Immediately

I still remember waiting in line for the PS4 to launch at GameStop – it feels like yesterday! But it’s actually been over ten years since Sony released the PlayStation 4. During that time, the system has had a lot of incredible and innovative games.

The PlayStation 4 has a huge library of games, including action RPGs, shooters, and puzzles. While not every game instantly grabs your attention, many offer immediate fun the moment you start playing.

Want a great PS4 game you can enjoy immediately? Here are some top picks that don’t require a long, drawn-out introduction to get to the fun parts.

10. Tetris Effect

Building Blocks

Tetris is a classic game that’s instantly enjoyable, and Tetris Effect is no different. Most people already understand the basic idea: fit falling shapes together to create and clear lines. While the gameplay is simple, that’s exactly what makes it so easy to pick up and play.

Tetris Effect takes the classic game to a new level with stunning graphics and a dynamic soundtrack, featuring everything from dreamy, atmospheric music to energetic electronic tracks. It’s hard not to enjoy such a visually and aurally captivating experience!

9. inFAMOUS Second Son

A Chip Off the Old Block

inFAMOUS Second Son is an open-world action game set in a fictionalized Seattle where you play as a hero with incredible superpowers. From the start, you’ll be using those powers – like controlling electricity and fire – to fight enemies and explore the city.

What’s great about games like Second Son is the freedom to explore and tackle objectives however you want, letting you earn new powers and improvements. From the start, the game makes you feel strong, and you only get more powerful as you play. It’s consistently action-packed and keeps the experience fast-paced and enjoyable.

8. Monster Hunter World

Searching for Prey

Although not the very first Monster Hunter game, World was arguably the first to gain widespread popularity beyond its dedicated fanbase. It’s a game with complex systems and detailed gameplay, but it quickly gets you into the action, letting you hunt monsters before overwhelming you with complicated details.

Monster Hunter World is even more fun when you team up with friends to battle massive monsters like Diablos or Nergigante. With tons of weapons and armor to create and a constant stream of new content, there’s always something to do and discover.

7. Horizon Zero Dawn

An Electric Future

PlayStation consistently delivers fantastic games set in post-apocalyptic worlds. Horizon Zero Dawn stood out with its unique take on the future – a world where advanced technology is a forgotten relic and robotic creatures hunt humans. Playing as Aloy, players could easily learn to skillfully sneak past these robotic beasts and uncover the secrets of lost technology, making the game incredibly engaging and difficult to stop playing.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a beautiful game on the PS4, set in a world where nature has reclaimed the ruins of the old world and massive machines roam free. If you’re searching for a compelling single-player adventure, it’s an excellent option.

6. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

A Different Kind of Tomb Raider

Each Uncharted game begins with an exciting opening, and Uncharted 4 was no exception. The thrilling boat chase at the start of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End immediately grabbed your attention and set the stage for Nathan Drake’s final adventure. Naughty Dog consistently delivers top-quality PlayStation games, and Uncharted 4 continued that tradition.

If you love adventure games but haven’t played Uncharted, you’re in for a treat – and I’m a little envious! You’re about to discover an amazing series. While you can jump right into the fourth game, it’s even better if you play all of them from the beginning.

5. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Web Swinging

You begin your journey as Spider-Man in New York City by battling Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, and his crew. After a quick start to the action, the game opens up, letting you swing through the city, stop everyday crimes, and fight iconic villains. Marvel’s Spider-Man is designed to be immersive and encourages you to explore everything the world has to offer.

Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve just booted up this game on my PS4 to swing around the city. I love finding the highest buildings, leaping off, and getting that amazing rush of falling – it’s like a rollercoaster! And if that simple stuff is so fun, you can bet the actual game is incredible. If you haven’t played Marvel’s Spider-Man yet, seriously, you’re missing out – it’s easily one of the best Spider-Man games ever made, and one of the highlights of the whole PS4 generation.

4. Red Dead Redemption 2

A Cowboy Epic

Red Dead Redemption 2 is consistently ranked among the best games of the PlayStation 4 era. This immersive, open-world adventure lets you experience the Wild West, starting you on a sweeping and emotional journey from a snowy mountain peak.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a remarkably immersive game thanks to its stunning scenery, thrilling action – including bank robberies – and dramatic, emotional story. Like other games from Rockstar, it’s captivating from start to finish.

3. Ghost of Tsushima

Way of the Samurai

Ghost of Tsushima begins with an incredibly exciting battle between invading Huns and samurai on the shores of Tsushima Island. It’s easily one of my favorite PlayStation 4 games. I’ve always loved samurai games, and this one really stands out with its beautiful scenery – the island’s hills look amazing – and its satisfying, well-designed combat.

Ghost of Tsushima offers players flexibility in how they tackle challenges – you can choose direct combat or a stealthier, more strategic approach. The game beautifully captures the style of Kurosawa films and delivers the engaging open-world experience that Sucker Punch Productions is famous for. It’s a truly enjoyable game and a great addition to any PS4 owner’s library.

2. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Making Great Greater

The raid on Shinra in the original Final Fantasy 7 was incredibly influential when it first launched on PlayStation. However, compared to the updated graphics and gameplay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it understandably looks dated. The remake successfully combines fast-paced action with the classic Active Time Battle (ATB) system that fans loved in older Final Fantasy games. After years of anticipation, the remake delivered and was worth the wait for longtime fans.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is truly one of the greatest RPGs of all time, not just on PlayStation 4, but across the board. If you’re a fan of the genre, you won’t find many games better than this one.

1. Grand Theft Auto 5

Get that Money

Grand Theft Auto 5, like other games in the series, begins with an exciting bank robbery. From there, the game lets you freely explore and cause as much trouble as you want. The freedom to steal cars and create chaos, even before starting the main story, is a big part of what makes GTA 5 so enjoyable. You can choose to simply wreak havoc or focus on completing the game’s missions.

Beyond the main story, GTA Online lets you jump right into the action, much like the single-player game. The ability to play heists, races, and smaller missions with friends makes GTA 5 instantly enjoyable from the moment you start.
