Brendan Greene, the creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), is starting a new project called Prologue: Go Wayback! This game is designed to showcase the potential of Artemis, a larger project aiming to build a massive, procedurally generated world covering the entire planet. Go Wayback! is a smaller-scale experiment, but it still uses AI to create unique, procedurally generated maps. Players on PC will be the first to try it out, and the developers will consider bringing it to consoles later.
Prologue Go Wayback on consoles
Gamers with a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S might be disappointed to learn that Prologue: Go Wayback! is currently only available on PC. The game is still in development as an early access title, meaning it’s not fully finished. However, the developers haven’t ruled out the possibility of releasing it on consoles in the future.
Releasing a game in early access lets developers get valuable feedback from players, which helps them improve it. It also gives fans a chance to support a game they’re excited about. Importantly, early access reveals how much interest there is in a title. If a game attracts a lot of players and does well, developers are more likely to continue supporting it with updates, new features, or versions for other devices.
The situation with PGW is similar. The developers have expressed interest in adding multiplayer to the game, and they feel the same way about bringing it to consoles. According to the official Discord FAQ, they hope to release the full game on consoles in the future. This will likely happen after the 1.0 version is released and if the Prologue Go Wayback is successful.
The developers plan to keep the early access version of PGW available for about a year, according to its Steam page. However, these timeframes often change, so it’s possible the game will take longer to fully release.
