Project Century and Virtua Fighter are new games from Ryu Ga Gotoku, creators of Yakuza

As an ardent gamer with a penchant for immersive storytelling and gripping combat sequences, I must say the news about the upcoming games from Ryu Ga Gotoku studio has me buzzing with anticipation! The prospect of a new Virtua Fighter game is simply electrifying. It’s been a decade since we’ve had a full-fledged installment, and the thought of stepping back into the ring with my favorite characters is almost too much to bear.

The creators behind the Yakuza series are currently developing two fresh games, which they unveiled and gave a sneak peek of at The Game Awards in 2024.

The initial title unveiled by Sega was a fresh take on the beloved Virtua Fighter fighting game franchise, which has been absent from the scene since its last substantial release in 2007. However, in 2021, it saw a second remaster, offering a reason for enthusiasts of combat games to rejoice.

Regrettably, the project didn’t reveal much detail. All we’ve been given so far is assurance that the game is in progress and a short snippet (just a few seconds) of gameplay focusing on combat action.

We got a glimpse into Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s second project, titled Project Century, which aligns more with typical titles from other developers. It’s shaping up to be an action-adventure game featuring a third-person perspective (TPP), but unlike most games set in modern times, this one transports us back to Japan in 1915.

Both games don’t have a release date yet, but we will probably have to wait a long time for them, judging by the lack of final titles. In the case of PC, fragments of gameplay from the pre-alpha version were shown. It’s worth adding, however, that we will learn more details about the new Virtua Fighter today.
