Taylor Sheridan has become a major player in television over the past ten years. While he first gained recognition for his films like Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River, he’s recently achieved huge success with TV shows like Tulsa King, Landman, and the popular Yellowstone universe. Though Yellowstone is growing with new shows and stories, Sheridan’s work isn’t limited to Westerns; his crime thriller on Paramount+ offers a different kind of story.
Jeremy Renner plays Michael McLusky in Mayor of Kingstown, a show that premiered on Paramount+ in 2021. The series focuses on his efforts to maintain peace in the volatile town of Kingstown, Michigan, by acting as a go-between for its powerful groups. Despite the recent conclusion of Season 4 in January, Paramount+ has announced that filming for the fifth and final season is now in progress.

After Tracy’s death and the fallout from Mike (Renner) and Kyle’s (Taylor Handley) actions, FBI agent Russell Hardy (David Morse) comes to Kingstown looking for Callahan, who is considered a fugitive. A dedicated law enforcement officer, Hardy risks exposing Mike’s hidden past and upsetting the fragile peace in Kingstown.
Season 5 features Edie Falco, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Necar Zadegan, Nichole Galicia, and Lennie James in supporting roles.
While many viewers will miss the show, its consistently positive reception means it’s ending at a strong point, rather than continuing past its prime. The series has actually improved with each season, so the fifth and final season has the potential to be the best yet. However, this last season will be shorter than usual, with only eight episodes instead of the typical ten.
