The popular show American Gladiators is getting a fresh start on Prime Video next month. This new version updates the classic series, which originally aired 37 years ago.
The show first ran weekly from 1989 to 1996, pitting everyday athletes against professional strongmen and women in challenges of strength and quickness. It was then revived for two seasons on NBC in 2008, with Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali as hosts. Now, the competition is back for another reboot.
Prime Video announced that the revival of American Gladiators will begin streaming on Friday, April 17th. The first three episodes will be available immediately, with another three released on April 24th, and the last four episodes on May 1st. They also revealed a new promotional image for the show.
Each episode of the Prime Video show American Gladiators, hosted by WWE superstar Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and Rocsi Diaz, will feature amateur athletes from across the U.S. competing against a new team of 16 powerful Gladiators in a high-energy arena.
Competitors will face off in traditional challenges like Joust, Powerball, Hang Tough, and The Wall, plus brand new, demanding obstacles including The Ring and Collision. These events will push their strength, strategy, and willpower to the limit. Ultimately, one male and one female gladiator will be crowned champion, earning a $100,000 prize.
The new Prime Video series, American Gladiators, was created by Johnny C. Ferraro. He also serves as an executive producer, alongside Daniel Calin, Barry Poznick, Susan Janis-Mashayekhi, Sarah Happel Jackson, and Adam Cooper. Ramy Romany directed the series.
