Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ Casts Ed Skrein as Baldur

Prime Video’s upcoming God of War series has added a star from Deadpool to play the main villain. The show is based on the hugely popular God of War video game franchise, known for its epic stories rooted in mythology and intense action, which has captivated players for over two decades. This adaptation will focus on the more recent games, specifically drawing from the 2018 God of War game, where the main character, Kratos, trades the world of Greek mythology for Norse legends.

The upcoming live-action God of War series is continuing to build its cast. Ryan Hurst, known for Sons of Anarchy, will play Kratos, a role notable as he previously voiced Thor in the God of War video games. He’s joined by Teresa Palmer as Sif, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Callum Vinson as Atreus. Recently, Amazon MGM Studios announced that Ed Skrein, famous for Deadpool, will portray Baldur. The character of Baldur is described as follows:

Let me tell you about Baldur. He’s Odin’s son, but don’t let that fool you – he’s arguably the most dangerous thing the Allfather ever created. This guy is magnetic, totally unpredictable, and has a way with words that could cut you to the quick. But beneath the charm is a deep, simmering rage. As a kid, he was cursed, robbed of the ability to feel any pleasure or even physical sensation. It’s that emptiness that drives his relentless anger and bloodlust. In a fight, he’s a powerhouse, relying on brutal strength and raw impact. But what he really wants, more than anything, is a worthy opponent – someone who can finally push him to his limit and, maybe, just maybe, make him feel something again. It’s a fascinating, tragic character, and I’m eager to see where this goes.

Many fans recognize Joe Skrein as Ajax from Deadpool, but he’s built a diverse career with roles in films like Jurassic World Rebirth, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Alita: Battle Angel. He’s also known for his work in God of War, and is currently appearing in the upcoming miniseries Ride or Die, alongside Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham.
