Although it seemed like the Bosch series had finished, new shows like Bosch: Legacy and Ballard demonstrate that the popular detective drama isn’t ending on Prime Video. These days, it’s becoming harder for streaming services to let go of successful franchises. Even though Netflix is looking for its next hit like Stranger Things, that show is still ongoing.
Even though the main series concluded in late 2025, fans of Stranger Things will soon get more story through an animated adventure, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which bridges the gap between seasons 2 and 3. Similarly, while the crime drama Bosch on Prime Video finished its run in 2021, the world of the show is continuing with new content in 2026.
Bosch: Start of Watch and Ballard Season 2 Prove Bosch Isn’t Over Yet
The TV series Bosch, based on the novels by Michael Connelly, centers around LAPD homicide detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch, played by Titus Welliver. Bosch is a complex and flawed hero who investigates cases in the Hollywood Hills. While he’s willing to bend the rules to solve crimes, he always operates with a strong personal sense of justice.
Bosch is similar to detective Harry Hole from Jo Nesbo’s novels – a character actually inspired by Michael Connelly’s Bosch, and who will soon have his own Netflix series. The original Bosch series, which ran for seven seasons on Prime Video from 2014 to 2021, was highly praised by critics. But the follow-up, Bosch: Legacy, essentially continued the same story.
Although often called a spinoff, Bosch: Legacy was essentially a continuation of the original series, offering three more seasons of stories featuring the main character. As Bosch: Legacy neared its end, it led to another show called Ballard, starring Maggie Q as a detective who investigates unsolved cold cases.
Bosch Is Prime Video’s Most Consistently Popular Police Procedural Franchise
Although Netflix’s series based on Michael Connelly’s books, The Lincoln Lawyer, is popular, it hasn’t yet launched successful spin-offs like Bosch has. Following the three seasons of Bosch: Legacy and the first season of Ballard, Ballard was quickly renewed for a second season, and the creators then announced Bosch: Start of Watch.
I’m so excited to see where this universe is going! They’re making a prequel series about a young Harry Bosch, showing us how he first became a detective – long before the events of the original show. It’s amazing to me that, even though Bosch seemed to wrap up in 2021, we’re getting not one, but two spinoffs in 2026: season two of Ballard and Bosch: Start of Watch. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
