Prime Video U.K. Director Chris Bird Stepping Down After 14 Years

As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but feel a pang as I share the news that Chris Bird, the esteemed director at Prime Video UK, has chosen to part ways with the company he’s called home for over a decade and a half. This decision marks the end of an era in our film community.

The announcement was made in an internal communication to employees, penned by Brigette Ricou-Bellan, the head of Prime Video EU. She mentioned that Bird has been with the company since its acquisition of the early streaming service LoveFilm in 2011 and assumed leadership of the U.K. division in 2021.

During that period, Chris played a significant role in expanding Prime Video UK into one of the U.K.’s leading streaming platforms, achieving key achievements like the debut of UEFA Champion’s League, the purchase of Bray Studios, and testifying before governmental committees to highlight the impact of PV UK on the British film and TV sector,” she stated.

Collaborating with our content and studio collaborators on projects like ‘The Rig,’ ‘The Devil’s Hour,’ and not forgetting ‘Clarkson’s Farm,’ Chris has significantly contributed to making Prime Video a top choice for entertainment in the U.K. We are thankful for all his efforts towards the success of our business and Amazon, and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”

“Through joint ventures with our content and studio partners on shows like ‘The Rig,’ ‘The Devil’s Hour,’ and ‘Clarkson’s Farm,’ Chris has been instrumental in positioning Prime Video as the leading entertainment platform in the U.K. We are incredibly appreciative of his contributions to the growth of our business and Amazon, and we wish him continued success.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m sad to break the news that the captivating film “Bird” will be departing from Prime Video later this month. Fear not, though, as we’ll soon embark on a hunt for its worthy successor – keep your eyes peeled for updates on that front!
