Pretty Much Every Switch 2 Owner Bought Mario Kart World

Nintendo recently shared its financial report, which includes early data about the Switch 2. The report also shows an incredibly high percentage of Switch owners also have the game Mario Kart World, suggesting it’s a must-have title for most players.

When counting game sales, bundled games are included, which is why titles like Wii Sports appear among the best-selling of all time. A game’s success can be boosted by being bundled with unique console accessories – for example, Duck Hunt sold extremely well because it was often packaged with the NES Zapper.

Even though it wasn’t included with every new console, Mario Kart World has been incredibly popular. Nintendo recently announced that the Switch 2 has sold 10.36 million units since it came out, and the exclusive game, Mario Kart World, has sold 9.57 million copies.

For years, Mario Kart has been Nintendo’s biggest hit, selling more copies than popular franchises like The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Pokémon. So, it wasn’t surprising that a new Mario Kart game sold very well when it came out.

It’s rare for a game not available on all consoles at launch to gain so many players so quickly. This demonstrates the franchise’s strong appeal, particularly among general gamers.

The Mario Kart World bundle probably boosted sales because it offered a discount compared to buying the game alone. Despite this, many players still purchased Mario Kart World separately, as it wasn’t included in a lot of other bundles.

Some Mario Kart fans have criticized the new game for sticking too closely to previous versions, not fully exploring the open world idea, and limiting options in multiplayer. Despite this, Mario Kart World is still performing strongly and could surpass the sales of the last game if the Switch 2 continues to be popular.
