Dan Trachtenberg reveals the sage advice James Cameron gave him

Dan Trachtenberg recently told Variety’s Adam B. Vary why James Cameron received a credit at the end of ‘Predator: Badlands’.

I was so excited to hear that while filming ‘Badlands’ in Auckland, New Zealand, James Cameron was shooting ‘Avatar 3’ in Wellington! He actually invited the former podcast host to visit the ‘Avatar’ set, and that’s where he got to share his vision for ‘Badlands’ with Cameron himself. It’s amazing to think about those two worlds colliding!

Trachtenberg explained his innovative approach to the film – using a practical prosthetic suit combined with visual effects for the actor’s face. He recounted how, after discussing it with a key person, that person told him on the way to dinner that he believed the technique would be successful. Trachtenberg said this positive feedback was a huge boost to the team’s confidence as they continued working on the project in Auckland.

After cheering up Trachtenberg, the director of Titanic received an almost-completed version of Predator: Badlands. Trachtenberg wrote a note saying he initially doubted the project would succeed, but was amazed by how well it turned out. The director, age 44, said this feedback was incredibly encouraging and boosted his confidence.

Cameron was right – Predator: Badlands has received excellent reviews, earning an 85% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
