Many fans might be wondering why Amber Midthunder’s character, Naru, isn’t in the new movie Predator: Badlands. Director Dan Trachtenberg recently explained that he did want to include her, but it just didn’t work out for the latest Predator film.
Amber Midthunder’s Naru could have been in Predator: Badlands
I recently spoke with director Dan Trachtenberg about something fans have been wondering: why Amber Midthunder, who was fantastic as Naru in Prey, wasn’t in Predator: Badlands. He explained he originally had plans for her, a substantial role even, but as the story evolved, he felt it was better to hold off and save her character for future installments. He clearly sees bigger things ahead for Naru, and wants to give her story the attention it deserves when the time is right.
Director Trachtenberg explained his choice not to include Amber Midthunder in Predator: Badlands, stating there are larger plans for her character later on. He initially considered pairing her with the Predator, but realized that would change the core idea of the story – a film focused solely on the Predator with no human characters. He believes saving her appearance allows for more exciting possibilities in the future.
I’m really excited about Predator: Badlands! It’s totally different from Prey, which I loved. This one follows a young Predator named Dek, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who’s kind of an outcast. He teams up with a synthetic being named Thia, played by Elle Fanning, and their journey is all about Dek finding his biggest enemy, but they end up forming a really unexpected connection along the way.
As of now, it’s unclear what will happen to Amber Midthunder’s character, Naru, in future Predator films. After her impressive fight in Prey, a short scene after the credits of Predator: Killer of Killers shows Naru has been frozen in time. This suggests fans will likely see Naru return in later Predator movies.
While waiting for more news, fans can enjoy Predator: Badlands, the latest film in the updated Predator series, which will be released in theaters on November 7th.
