The gaming studio FuturLab has declared they’ll no longer provide updates or assistance for PowerWash Simulator VR because it’s not financially sustainable. Interestingly, their decision seems to have spared them from having to let go of staff members, as the VR team is now working on different tasks instead.

In a statement, CEO Kristy Rigden outlined a challenging juncture: we possess an outstanding and compassionate VR team who have been developing a platform that exceeds our budget, while simultaneously having open positions for other projects waiting to be filled.

She mentioned that ensuring job security for her team was important to her, so she assigned those other roles and projects to members from the Virtual Reality (VR) team.

FuturLab further clarified that although they are scaling back on general VR support at present, they haven’t ruled out supporting the platform in the future. They confirmed that their VR game and existing DLC can still be bought and played, but you should not expect any new updates going forward.

Over the last few years, the virtual reality (VR) sector has faced several difficulties. As far back as 2023, Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 apparently didn’t sell well, and in 2024, it was reported that Sony halted production of new headset units. More recently, First Contact Entertainment, the developer behind Firewall Ultra, closed its doors due to insufficient VR support across the industry.
