A well-known virtual streamer has partnered with the police to help share new traffic laws and promote road safety to more people.
Japanese police have appointed a virtual influencer as a traffic safety ambassador, reflecting a wider trend of government agencies using online personalities to share important public information.
AZKi, a popular music creator with Hololive, has been chosen for the project. She’s gained a large following on YouTube – over 1.31 million subscribers – thanks to her singing, live streams, and unique content.
VTuber gets official role helping police
AZKi announced on Twitter that starting September 1, 2026, the speed limit on neighborhood roads will be lowered from 60 to 30 kilometers per hour. This change is to help keep pedestrians and cyclists safe, so drivers are asked to reduce their speed in residential areas.
The Kagawa Prefectural Police recently appointed Hololive’s AZKi as their Traffic Safety Advisor and Honorary Chief of Police for a day at the Shonai Police Station! Given AZKi’s name includes “azuki” (red bean), and the connection to the island of Shodoshima (famous for azuki beans), it’s a perfect match for Kagawa Prefecture! The police have also created special short videos and posters featuring AZKi to promote traffic safety.

Kagawa Prefecture will release a promotional video on its official YouTube channel in late March, and posters will also appear throughout the region. Although it might seem like science fiction, pairing a virtual influencer with the police isn’t new – virtual streamers have assisted with real-world tasks before.
Kizuna AI collaborated with Japanese tourism officials to attract visitors from other countries. Similarly, Sakura Miko from Hololive gained recognition by participating in a public safety campaign as an honorary fire chief.
Virtual streamers aren’t the only ones branching out into real-life activities – Japan even appointed a calico cat as a stationmaster back in January.
Now that AZKi is a Traffic Regulation Ambassador, the police are hoping to improve road safety in Japan.
