Sources suggest Marvel Studios is planning to cast a well-known actor from a previous Marvel film in an important part for the upcoming movie, Avengers: Secret Wars.
Which popular Marvel star may be joining the MCU for Avengers: Secret Wars?
The recent Multiverse Saga in Marvel movies has brought back some beloved actors to reprise their iconic roles from before the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2008. For example, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield both returned as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Patrick Stewart once again played Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Marvel’s Multiverse Saga is ending in December 2027 with the movie Avengers: Secret Wars, and the studio is hoping to bring back some past actors before starting a new chapter. According to insider James Mack, the role of a Mister Fantastic variant will be played by an actor other than Pedro Pascal.
According to Mack, if plans stay on track and early visuals from ‘Secret Wars’ are included in the final movie, we can expect to see a version of Reed Richards. However, it won’t be the one played by Miles Teller, according to his post on X.
Someone sent a GIF of Ioan Gruffudd as Mister Fantastic, and honestly, it got me thinking! Mack responded with a playful “Yes, probably yes,” which is so exciting because Gruffudd was Mister Fantastic in those early 2000s Fantastic Four films. It really feels like they’re hinting at something!
If Gruffudd doesn’t reprise his role for Secret Wars, which starts filming later this year, Mack believes Pascal will likely play that version of the character instead.
Currently, the cast for Secret Wars hasn’t been announced. The movie will continue the story from Avengers: Doomsday, and both films are directed by Anthony and Joe Russo – their first time back directing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2019.
The next Avengers movie, titled Doomsday, will be released on December 18, 2026. A year later, on December 17, 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theaters.
