Despite numerous online rumors, Ubisoft hasn’t officially announced anything about Far Cry 7. Fans and the gaming press are still depending on leaks and their own research for information. Recently, a dataminer found some potential clues while examining files for the game XDefiant, suggesting details about the next Far Cry installment.
A trusted insider known as Rogue, with connections to Ubisoft, discovered information suggesting that content from the game XDefiant is linked to a new extraction mode being created for the next Far Cry game. Screenshots claiming to show this mode have also appeared online, but their authenticity is being questioned.
What did the dataminer find?
According to Rogue:
- the published images are from the extraction mode, not the Far Cry 7 campaign;
- the action of this module is set to take place on the Paradise Park map located in Alaska;
- during gameplay, players will encounter aggressive wild animals;
- the story campaign will most likely use a different map;
- one of the playable characters appears to be a white man with a beard, around thirty years old;
- the game is expected to be released within the next two years;
- the entire project is being developed on the Snowdrop engine.
A big commotion
Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming notes that recent leaks present a confusing picture. It’s easy to see why, considering the first Far Cry project, originally called Talisker, was initially canceled and later divided into two different games.
- Project Blackbird – the main Far Cry 7,
- Project Maverick – a separate extraction shooter.
There’s been some confusion online about a potential game set in Alaska, fueled by screenshots that are actually from a previously canceled game called Talisker. Insider Gaming discovered this because the screenshots show jungle environments, Mayan pyramids, and large billboards – elements that wouldn’t fit an Alaskan setting.
One image shows a mutated rat pulling a dead player, a detail that comes from the game Talisker, which featured animal experimentation in its story. Insider Gaming reports that a similar idea might appear in Far Cry 7. Meanwhile, if Maverick is ever finished – the developers are having trouble making it fun – it will probably emphasize more realistic animals like wolves and bears.
You won’t believe this! Henderson says he actually had seen some early concept art and stuff from the game, but the people who gave it to him made him promise not to share it. And get this – he says what leaked recently perfectly matches that old material, which basically proves it’s real, even if it’s from a super early version of the game. It’s wild!
Project Blackbird – what is that?
Early information about Project Blackbird suggests players will take on the role of someone whose family has been kidnapped by a cult. This group is obsessed with conspiracy theories and is said to be conducting experiments using drugs that cause hallucinations.
The game features a rescue mission with a time limit: you have 24 hours within the game to save your family. But don’t worry, time moves slower for the player in the real world, giving you around 72 hours to complete it.
There was a rumor going around that Cillian Murphy would be the villain, but it turned out not to be true.
