An uncontrollable situation arose during the debut of beauty products by social media star Salish Matter at the American Dream mall in New Jersey, causing authorities to prematurely halt the event due to an overwhelming crowd.
15-year-old internet sensation Salish Matter, who boasts an impressive 4.5 million Instagram followers, was all set to launch her fresh makeup line Sincerely Yours at the American Dream mall in New Jersey on September 6. Fans could already purchase their tickets, looking forward to a chance to meet Salish and grab some exclusive merchandise.
However, as the event commenced, participants reported that their tickets weren’t checked, the management of the crowd disintegrated, and enthusiasts found themselves unable to catch a glimpse of or interact with the influencer.
As a devoted fan, I found myself caught in the midst of an overwhelming crowd surging through a sprawling shopping center during the event. One quick TikTok snippet painted a chaotic picture, labeling it as “entirely disorganized, potentially dangerous.” Another fellow enthusiast shared their experience, stating that despite securing tickets, there were no scans at the entrance, leaving us unable to catch even a proper glimpse of the main act. She made a brief appearance, but her visibility was minimal due to the sheer number of people present.
“Chaotic” influencer mall event shut down by police
As reported by Jordan Matter, Salish’s father, a larger crowd than anticipated turned up, leading the state police to intervene and close down the event. For safety reasons, both Salish and Jordan Matter were asked to leave the mall.
According to matter, our stage performance ended prematurely due to safety reasons and they wouldn’t let me or my daughter rejoin the crowd afterwards. People reported this. It was really disappointing… We had intended to stay late at the shopping center if required to greet everyone, but instead we were escorted out of the mall by state police at 3 pm.
Fans voiced their discontent on social media, describing tickets as redundant and expressing feelings of deception. But in spite of this outcry, Salish later posted on Instagram about the event, stating they were amazed by the crowd and regretted not being able to meet everyone. In the video, Salish reported that more than 80,000 people attended.
In simpler terms, after the event, the American Dream Mall issued a statement expressing their amazement at the enormous attendance, stating that it ranked among the biggest events they’ve ever organized.
