In a surprising turn of events, police in Napa County, California, apprehended two men suspected of stealing Christmas trees and wreaths while disguised as Santa Claus.
The holidays are here, and while most people are excited to spend time with family and friends, it’s also a time when some people tend to be a bit grumpy or negative.
Police were called to a Safeway in Santa Fe after thieves stole over $2,000 worth of Christmas trees and wreaths in late November. Officers eventually caught the suspects on December 4th.
The police department shared news of the arrests on Facebook with a creative post: an officer dressed as Santa Claus recreated the scene in a short video. The video, set to the song “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch,” showed the officer with arms outstretched and a holstered weapon.

Two arrested for stealing Christmas trees
Police identified the suspects as Kayla Daniels, 29, and Joshua Gonzales, 39, both from Vallejo, after further investigation. On Thursday afternoon, officers searched their home in Vallejo and arrested them. They recovered all the stolen trees and wreaths during the search, police said.
Daniels and Gonzales were arrested and charged with grand theft and conspiracy. They were taken to the Napa County jail.
“The recovered Christmas trees were returned to Safeway.”
Many Facebook users found the video amusing. One person commented, “This is hilarious! It’s like Santa is a superhero – I might even show it to my students as a reminder that Santa sees everything.”
People continued to praise the officers, with one person writing, “Remember to make good choices – Santa is watching!” Another commented, “I loved seeing Santa help arrest the suspect. Great work, everyone!”
Canadian police have been working to protect the joy of the Christmas season. In Brantford, Ontario, officers responded to reports of signs proclaiming “Santa is fake” being displayed during a Christmas parade.
