Pokemon YouTuber banned by AI as channel steals their video but YouTube won’t budge

Popular Pokémon content creator SplashPlate was banned from YouTube after someone else re-uploaded his videos. His attempts to get the ban lifted have been unsuccessful.

Recently, YouTube has been removing content it considers unhelpful or deceptive. Many video creators have reported that their channels were unexpectedly shut down, and they believe these terminations were mistakes.

We’ve seen cases where creators were wrongly penalized, like Tech YouTuber Enderman, who was banned because their account was linked to one with previous violations. YouTube has acknowledged these errors, explaining that their moderation process involves both people and artificial intelligence working together to review each situation.

On December 9th, SplashPlate, a YouTuber known for Pokémon videos, announced they had been banned from the platform.

YouTuber SplashPlate banned after another channel takes video

In a recent post, YouTuber SplashPlate explained that his account was taken down because YouTube believed he was trying to bypass a ban on a different channel. YouTube’s policy, called “circumvention,” prohibits users from trying to avoid restrictions placed on other accounts.

He stated that all of his content is original and he’s never shared anyone else’s work. He pointed out that another account, EvoultionArmy, had reposted one of his popular edits, even though it still included his ‘SplashPlateVGC’ watermark.

That account has been banned as well. He believes YouTube incorrectly flagged a re-upload of his video as content from a previously terminated account, pointing to the watermark as proof it’s his original work.

My YouTube channel was wrongly terminated because someone stole one of my videos and reposted it. YouTube mistakenly believes I was the one who reuploaded their stolen content, even though the original video is mine and includes my watermark (@TeamYouTube). Please investigate this immediately.

SplashPlate has been informed by TeamYouTube on X (formerly Twitter) that his ban will not be lifted.

He explained that despite not seeing his recent tweet or video, people still thought he was trying to get around a restriction, and he shared a screenshot of their conversation to prove it.

I just received a message from Team YouTube, and it’s clear they haven’t even looked at my tweet or video. They still think I’m trying to get around a ban, which isn’t true. I really wish I could speak to a real person about this instead of getting automated replies.

MoistCr1TiKaL weighs in on SplahPlate ban

Popular YouTuber MoistCr1TiKaL also discussed SplashPlate’s experience in a video from December 9th, where he covered YouTube’s CEO addressing worries about using AI for content moderation.

Moist pointed out that the penalty was applied to a real user, not a fake account. He also noted that AI tools are rapidly improving, but still make frequent and significant errors in moderation, with new instances appearing almost daily.
