Pokemon Winds & Waves starters: Everything we know about Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua

During the Pokémon 30th anniversary celebration, the new Generation 10 starter Pokémon were unveiled: Browt, a Grass-type; Pombon, a Fire-type; and Gecqua, a Water-type. These three Pokémon will be the new partners for trainers.

During a recent anniversary event, The Pokemon Company announced the next generation of Pokemon games: Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves. Like previous games, players will start their adventure by selecting one of three Pokemon based on different elements – fire, water, and grass.

Although we don’t yet know much about the new area and Pokémon, the three starter Pokémon for Generation 10 have been fully revealed, including their classifications, types, sizes, weights, and special Abilities.

All Pokemon Winds and Waves starters

Browt

Type: Grass
Category: Bean Chick Pokemon
Height: 1′ (0.3 m)
Weight: 7.7 lbs. (3.5 kg)
Ability: Overgrow

Browt is the Grass-type Pokémon that begins every new game in Generation 10. Known as the Bean Chick Pokémon, it’s quite small, standing only a foot tall and weighing 7.7 pounds. Its round body, sprout-like head crest, and leaf-shaped eyebrows all emphasize its plant-based nature.

I’m really noticing a trend with Grass-type starters, and Browt is no exception! It has the Overgrow ability, which is awesome because it automatically makes its Grass-type attacks much stronger when it’s getting low on health – basically, when it’s down to about a third of its HP in battle. It’s a cool way to give it a fighting chance!

Pombon

Type: Fire
Category: Puppy Pokemon
Height: 1′4″ (0.4 m)
Weight: 14.8 lbs. (6.7 kg)
Ability: Blaze

Pombon is the Fire-type Pokémon you can choose as your first partner in Pokémon Winds and Waves. This cute Pokémon, nicknamed the Puppy Pokémon, is the biggest of the three starters, standing at 1 foot 4 inches tall and weighing 14.8 pounds.

This Pokémon looks a lot like a dog with its fluffy orange fur and small size. It also has a special ability called Blaze, which makes its fire attacks even more powerful when it’s running low on health.

Gecqua

Type: Water
Category: Water Gecko Pokemon
Height: 1′ (0.3 m)
Weight: 9.5 lbs. (4.3 kg)
Ability: Torrent

And finally, there’s Gecqua, the Water-type starter! It’s a Water Gecko Pokemon, standing about a foot tall and weighing in at 9.5 pounds. Seems pretty manageable, honestly – I could definitely see it fitting in my party!

This little blue Pokémon has big eyes and a streamlined body, making it well-adapted to life in the water. Its Torrent ability boosts the power of its Water-type attacks when it’s low on health.

As of today, The Pokémon Company hasn’t shown us what the starting Pokémon – Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua – will evolve into. We expect to learn more about the new games, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves – including the new region they take place in and other Pokémon from Generation 10 – before they are released.
