Look, every new Pokémon generation throws in something different to spice up battles, and Gen 10 is going to do the same. We had Mega Evolutions in Gen 6, Dynamaxing in Gen 8, and Terastallizing in Gen 9, so it’s only a matter of time before Pokémon Winds & Winds shows us what it’s got. But honestly, I think we might not even have to wait much longer – I have a feeling the new battle gimmick is already right in front of our faces!
The new Japanese logo for Pokémon Winds & Waves reveals the game’s latest unique feature, just like previous releases. This sneak peek, along with earlier information about the game, gives fans an exciting glimpse of what to expect when Pokémon Winds & Waves launches on the Switch 2 next year.
Pokémon Winds & Waves’ Japanese Logo Hints at Gen 10’s Signature Gimmick

The February 2026 Pokémon Presents showcased how good the new game looks, and the new starter Pokémon are all very appealing (especially Pombon, who everyone already loves!). However, details about how the game actually plays haven’t been revealed yet. That’s not unusual for Pokémon fans, though – the series is known for leaks, and some information from the reveal trailer had actually surfaced online before the official presentation.
A data breach in 2024 revealed details about the upcoming game, Winds & Waves. The leaked information included the game’s title, a map of the game world, and some accurate predictions about the game. The leak also contained details about a unique gameplay feature that hasn’t been shown in trailers yet.
As a longtime Pokémon fan, I was really excited to pore over the Japanese logo when it dropped! It’s become something of a tradition that the Japanese logos for the main series games give you a little clue about the new gameplay mechanic. It’s funny because the English logos never do that – they’re usually just the game’s name and some cool artwork. So, it was nice to at least get a little hint of what’s coming this time around!

Often, the Japanese logos for Pokémon games have small details that aren’t in the English versions. For instance, the logos for Sword and Shield featured a special Poké Ball only seen in Japan, and Scarlet & Violet’s Japanese logo included a Tera Crystal that wasn’t in the English release. It appears the newest logos for Winds & Waves follow this same pattern.
The English logos for Pokémon Winds & Waves clearly reflect the game’s theme. However, the Japanese logos feature a unique symbol not found in the English versions – it looks like a rainbow-colored Poké Ball with energy radiating outwards. Although details about the game’s new battle mechanic are still limited, early information from leaks seems very positive.
Previous Leaks Offer Insight Into What Pokémon Winds & Waves’ Gimmick Might Actually Look Like
Now that the recent leaks about the Pokémon Winds & Waves trailer have proven to be true, other unconfirmed leaks are starting to seem much more credible. This especially applies to information about the new gameplay feature expected in the tenth generation of Pokémon games.
Recent leaks suggest a new battle mechanic in Winds & Waves called “Majin.” This mechanic seems to have a spiritual theme, allowing one Pokémon in your party to be revived after being knocked out. When revived, the Pokémon transforms into a stronger, spirit-like form with boosted stats. However, once activated, you won’t be able to switch this Pokémon out of battle until it faints again or the “Majin” effect ends.
The “Majin” feature might be linked to the type of Poké Ball a Pokémon is caught in. Being inside a Majin Poké Ball could be what causes a Pokémon to enter the “possessed” state when it faints. This could also explain the unusual Poké Ball symbol in the Japanese logo.
Rumors suggest that Pokémon transformations in the game might be linked to the weather or surrounding environment, fitting with the game’s focus on wind and water. This could explain the discovery of research labs throughout the game world. These labs seem connected to the transformation mechanic, and the main scientist appears to be studying how different environments affect it. Players might need to visit these labs – specifically those themed around Rock, Ice, Ground, Fire, and Psychic types – to help with research.
As with any leaked information, fans should be cautious about these details. However, the recently revealed Japanese logo for Winds & Waves gives us a first look at what the symbol for the game’s new battle mechanic might be. Pokémon Winds & Waves isn’t expected to release until 2027, so Game Freak will likely share more official details later on.
Pokemon Winds & Waves is scheduled to release exclusively for the Switch 2 in 2027.
