Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket helped DeNA gain a massive increase in profit from games in Q3 FY2024

The Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket has stirred up a significant amount of excitement within the international mobile gaming scene over the past few months. This game has notably boosted its developer, DeNA’s, earnings substantially compared to the previous year. Upon the release of their Q3 2024-2025 fiscal year financial report, special attention was given to this game’s substantial impact on their profits.

On page 8, it was detailed that Pokemon TCG Pocket had achieved over 60 million downloads globally by December 2024. The company mentioned that a substantial number of players continue to be active in the game, and they’ve observed that numerous users still hold an active subscription to the Premium Pass.

On Page 7, you’ll find quarterly graphs that demonstrate the impact of the new game on the company’s gaming division. To the right, there’s a simpler graph displaying DeNA’s game projects’ segment profits. The company experienced a shift from losing 200 million yen in Q4 2023 and having a slight profit of 1.5 billion yen in Q3 2024 to an impressive 18.6 billion yen ($122.8 million) in Q4 2024 following the launch of TCG Pocket. The table on Page 4 reveals significant percentage jumps; the Q3 FY2024 profits saw a rise of 1,131%, compared to Q2, and the total earnings for the first three quarters of FY2024 were an astounding 8,127% greater than those of FY2023.

On the left side of Page 7, another graph displays the money users have spent on DeNA’s games. While Japanese domestic browser games consistently bring in around 9 billion yen, there was an increase in revenue for domestic apps from 6.9 billion to 35.3 billion yen, or approximately $233.2 million. The international app market outside Japan shows a more significant impact, with revenue rising from 5.9 billion to 50.8 billion yen, equivalent to around $335.7 million.

In summary, DeNA has assured players that they will keep enhancing the game by introducing fresh elements and booster packs. Since its debut, DeNA has been consistently rolling out new packs such as the Mew-themed Mythical Island and Space-Time Smackdown, which focuses on Gen IV, along with anticipated features like card trading. It’s important to note that Space-Time Smackdown was released in January, falling under Q4. As a result, we can anticipate another impressive financial report from DeNA in the upcoming quarter.
