Currently, in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCGO), a significant shift has occurred where decks centered around Darkrai EX are prevailing in the current metagame. This situation is sparking nostalgia among players as it reminds them of an earlier era when another overpowered card held sway over the game, causing some to long for those ‘good old days’.
The latest Space-Time Smackdown expansion has been launched, introducing a fresh 207 cards to the game. This influx of new content has significantly altered the overall strategy (meta) and, as a result, popular decks used during battles.
In this latest collection, the powerful Darkrai ex has become a formidable force on the battlefield, appearing in numerous strategies. Yet, players find themselves yearning for another terrifying Mythical creature that once haunted their gameplay.
Pokemon TCG Pocket players want Celebi ex back
A user sharing a humorous image on the subreddit dedicated to the Pokemon Trading Card Game, expressed their opinion that perhaps players have been overly critical towards the Celebi EX card, revealing that they themselves were once an opponent of Celebi but have since changed their stance.

In case you’ve forgotten, the Celebi EX card from the Mythical Island expansion was a dominant force in the game because of its Power Bloom Attack. This move required players to flip a coin for each Energy attached, dealing 50 points of damage for every successful toss.
For quite a while, teaming up the Serperior card was a game-changer. Its Jungle Totem ability, which copies the Energy connected to a Pokémon, made it nearly impossible to beat in battle!
Originally, the pairing of these cards was almost always met with dread among players, leading them to mentally prepare for a match immediately upon seeing either one. However, with Darkrai ex causing similar trouble now, there’s a growing desire among trainers for Celebi to make a return.
Player one said, “I’m not kidding, LOL, this is the first time I created and used a Celebi deck,” and player two responded, “Celebi is undeniably enjoyable to play with and against. I can hardly believe it receives so much criticism because you always have an opportunity to win with it.
Despite some players holding strong feelings of dislike towards Celebi, others are spending their time exploring potential tactics to overcome the enigmatic Dark Mythical creature that dominates the game.
As a gamer, I’m absolutely fed up with those Darkrai decks that I’ve crafted the ultimate stall deck instead. It’s packed with two Venusaur EX, two Shaymin, and every single healing card in sight! Until my Venusaur can heal with its attack, I refuse to take any offensive moves.
A player using Darkrai offered some strategies against their deck. They suggested using Exeggutor EX for quicker damage (since it has an additional 20 points in darkness), followed by playing all green cards to maintain its high health. As a primary user of Darkrai, this player admitted that they haven’t found an effective counter for the Exeggutor EX card during their quest for 45 wins.
In simple terms, the Space-Time Smackdown collection is quite fresh, meaning the gameplay dynamics could shift in the coming days. This might especially be the case if the reported upcoming themed Booster Packs and Genetic Apex Rare Packs become a reality.
