Pokemon star WolfeyVGC taking break from competing after being groped at events

Wolfe Glick, a former Pokémon VGC World Champion known as WolfeyVGC, has announced he’s pausing in-person competition because he was inappropriately touched by fans at events.

Glick, a popular YouTuber with over 2 million subscribers, won the Pokémon Video Game Championship in 2016, becoming the World Champion. While he’s had many victories, he’s decided to stop competing in person due to repeated unwanted physical contact from fans at events.

He explained that attending tournaments had become increasingly challenging over the last few years. This year’s Worlds competition was particularly difficult and highlighted the need for a change, he stated on October 23rd.

During the 2025 season, which ran from September 2024 to August 2025, I participated in seven tournaments in person. Unfortunately, at five of these events, I experienced sexual assault. While taking photos with fans, I was inappropriately touched without my consent.

I’m upset about what’s happening, and it’s obviously not okay. Most people don’t physically assault others, and I don’t understand why it’s happening to me, but it is, and that’s the core issue.

WolfeyVGC reveals stress from competing at Pokemon events

Glick explained he’s taking a break for multiple reasons, not just the unwanted physical contact. He’s also been dealing with a neck injury, and attending events has become increasingly stressful and anxiety-inducing, making them less enjoyable for him.

I’m usually a pretty calm and relaxed person, but I only get really stressed and anxious when I’m competing in a Pokémon tournament. That competition stress is so strong that it makes everything else seem easy in comparison.

It usually takes about a week to recover after a tournament. For a while after, even leaving the house can cause my heart to race and bring on strong anxiety.

The previous World Champion won’t be appearing at any events in person for the next four months. This includes major competitions like the international championships, the US regionals, and the Toronto regionals.

He explained that he’d prefer to rest now, while he still has the option, rather than being forced to rest later on.

Wolfey stated that despite potentially qualifying for the next World Championships, he wouldn’t participate due to negative experiences with events last season. He clarified that he hasn’t retired completely and expressed admiration for his fellow competitors.
