A Pokémon fan is facing criticism after a video showed him bringing a child with him while reselling limited-edition items at a significantly inflated price. The video quickly spread online.
It’s no secret that some people resell Pokémon cards for a profit. If you’ve been collecting for a while, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of not being able to buy the Pokémon card packs you want because others quickly buy them all up just to resell them at a higher price.
From accidentally knocking things over to full-blown arguments, it’s no surprise some people consistently behave badly.
Okay, so things have really shifted recently. There’s this video going around of someone buying up all the Pokémon cards, and they even brought a kid with them while they did it! Honestly, the Pokémon community is super upset about it, and I can see why – it’s just not cool to hoard everything and prevent other fans from getting what they want.
Pokemon scalper under fire for bringing a kid along to bag cards
The video, which became popular online, was posted to TikTok by a user named ‘jamesthescalper’. It depicts him heading to the trading card game section and taking a large pile of Pokemon cards while a child is in the shopping cart.
It’s really disappointing to see scalpers now involving children to help them buy up all the Pokémon trading cards. This feels like a new low for the community. 😞 #PokemonTCG

To make the situation even more upsetting, this happened right in front of other customers – a woman and a child were actually looking at the same items when he suddenly grabbed them all.
Understandably, many Pokémon fans online were upset by this. There was immediate criticism, largely because a child was part of the situation.
The Pokemon TCG Alerts account on X reported that people are now using children to help them buy up all the available trading cards, calling it a new low for the hobby. Many other fans expressed similar disappointment in the comments.
Man, I am seriously furious about scalpers. It’s one thing to resell, but this guy was recording himself doing it, knowing he was ripping people off! Apparently, this woman was trying to get a gift for her kid’s birthday, and it just makes me so mad. I really hope he gets stuck with a ton of unsold stuff and the prices crash on him.
Someone else commented that if you’re going to take everything off the shelf, please wait until the people who were there first have had a chance to shop. At the very least, ask if they’re still looking. It’s just common courtesy – we all share this space.
Meanwhile, others have urged that a purchase limit be implemented to prevent this from happening.
