For nearly thirty years, Pokémon have battled each other under the direction of their trainers. But in 2026, the Pokémon will finally have a place of their own – a paradise called Pokémon Pokopia.
This new, relaxing game is different from traditional Pokemon battles. Instead of fighting, you’ll create a perfect home for Pokemon, designed specifically for each one. There’s no conflict or need to control their lives – you’ll gently guide them as they build a world called Pokopia, brick by brick, with a little help from a Ditto!

When will Pokemon Pokopia be released?
The game Pokemon Pokopia is scheduled to launch on March 5, 2026. Originally announced in September 2025 with only a general 2026 release timeframe, Nintendo officially confirmed the specific March date in November, just four months after the initial announcement.

Pokemon Pokopia Trailers
So far, only a trailer has been shown, and the game doesn’t focus on a traditional story. Instead of playing as a human, you control a Ditto that can transform into one. This Ditto doesn’t try to hide that it’s a Pokemon from other Pokemon, but its ability to appear human while still having Pokemon powers will be key to how the game world changes.
Pokemon Pokopia Platforms
Even though Pokemon Pokopia doesn’t seem to push the graphical limits of the current Nintendo Switch, it will only be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2. Anyone with the original Switch will need to upgrade to play it.
Pokemon Pokopia Story, Setting and Characters
Ditto is the star of the Pokémon game, Pokopia. However, the game’s trailer reveals that familiar Pokémon like Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander will also appear, drawn to Pokopia by the player’s decisions.
This game doesn’t seem to have any external dangers. The Pokémon appear to thrive as long as they’re well-cared for and feel comfortable in their new environment. Regarding Ditto, we don’t yet know if players can choose its appearance to match a specific gender, but it’s likely there will be some way to customize how it looks.
Pokemon Pokopia Gameplay
The game combines elements of Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and Dragon Quest Builders. In the trailer, the Pokémon Ditto shows it can copy other Pokémon’s abilities to do things like grow plants or gather materials for building. Players can use Ditto to construct homes for Pokémon, reshape the environment, and even create features like waterfalls and ponds by redirecting water.
Ditto can farm and cook for Pokémon, and the trailer shows that other players will be able to visit the homes you create in the game.
Pokemon Pokopia Development News
Pokémon Pokopia is being created by Omega Force, a game studio well-known for the Dynasty Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors series, as well as Persona 5 Strikers. They’ve previously collaborated with Nintendo on popular spin-off games like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
It’s currently unclear whether Pokemon Pokopia will get any downloadable content after it comes out in March 2026, as Omega Force hasn’t announced any plans.
