In the Nintendo Direct today, Pokémon had a more prominent role than usual, with three significant announcements being made, even though such revelations are typically reserved for dedicated Pokémon Presents events. Among these announcements was news about a completely new game, as well as information on five new Mega Evolutions set to appear in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and DLC for the upcoming title. Additionally, we were introduced to an innovative game that appears to blend elements of Pokémon with Animal Crossing, named Pokémon Pokopia.
Pokémon Pokopia looks like Pokémon meets Animal Crossing
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the latest Pokémon announcement! The spotlight is on an upcoming game titled Pokopia, a unique spin-off in the Pokémon universe. Unlike any other games, this time we step into the shoes of everyone’s favorite shape-shifter, Ditto! But instead of transforming into various Pokémon like usual, this time around, Ditto takes on human form in Pokopia. The twist? By interacting with wild Pokémon, Ditto gains new powers that enable us to mold and construct the game world to our heart’s content. It’s a game-changer, and I can hardly wait!
In the preview, Ditto learns to generate greenery from Bulbasaur and learns to water plants from Squirtle. It seems there’s plenty more knowledge to gather from diverse Pokémon in multiple games. The environment is filled with cubic structures reminiscent of Minecraft, but there are also traces of another Nintendo game: Animal Crossing. Unlike Minecraft, it doesn’t seem like players will be able to construct structures using blocks within the game; instead, a more straightforward crafting system will be employed for creating furniture and buildings.
The trailer initiates with a slightly ominous air of enigma. In this setting, Ditto is found in a cavern adjacent to an image of themselves with an unidentified coach. While not directly addressed in the trailer, it’s possible that The Pokémon Company has plans to reveal more details later on. For now, all that has been confirmed is that Pokémon Pokopia will be launched in 2026. There may well be additional information forthcoming before then.
