Just two weeks before it arrives on both Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Legends: Z-A – a highly anticipated game for Nintendo enthusiasts in 2025 – is generating buzz again with a fresh new trailer.
Okay, so this video is about six minutes long – definitely worth getting a coffee for! It gives you a really thorough look at the game, basically covering everything you need to know before you jump back into your adventure around Lumiose City. It’s a great overview, honestly. You won’t be lost when you start playing again!
In the trailer, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company showed off the game’s updated battle system, the lively Wild Zones within the city, a much more interactive way to catch Pokémon, and some upbeat battle music. They also revealed that Salamence is now able to stand upright!
To really complete the game, the creators emphasize that it’s enjoyable not just for dedicated Pokémon enthusiasts, but also for anyone new to the series who is about to throw their first Poké Ball. See it here:
I’m excited about competing in the nighttime tournament and enjoying some downtime at cafés in Lumiose City. But, I did see that the trailer caused a lot of disappointment among fans, and that was concerning.
Fans Look Excited for Z-A, But DLC and Online Locks Leave a Bitter Taste

Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online. Some people are a little bummed that the trailer didn’t show many NPCs walking around or detailed shop interiors. But honestly, the biggest complaints I’m seeing are about Mega Dimension DLC – people are frustrated that the Pokémon Company announced it as paid content. There’s also a lot of noise about how some content is being locked behind the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, and fans aren’t happy about that. It’s a pretty noisy crowd right now, to be honest!
Players are expressing concern that the downloadable content (DLC) suggests the game will initially be released with an unfinished story, deliberately designed to push players to buy the expansion. The fact that this content will cost extra is also frustrating for many. As one YouTube user put it, “Releasing DLC before the main game even comes out? That’s crazy. Nintendo could have simply included this content in the game from the beginning.”
As a fan, I’m seeing a lot of frustration about the Nintendo Switch Online content, and it seems like most people are really upset that the Mega Evolutions for the Kalos starters are locked behind the online subscription. We were hoping to be able to use them naturally during the main game, instead of needing to pay extra to access them. It feels like they should be available organically as part of the adventure!
One YouTube user expressed frustration, stating, “Having the Megas of the Kalos starters locked behind a paid service, on top of already paying for internet, is fairly annoying.” Others directly asked the developers: “Please, make the Mega Kalos starters available without requiring an online connection!”
Despite valid criticisms, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released on October 16th for both Nintendo Switch 1 and Nintendo Switch 2. The first part of the Mega Dimension DLC will also be available on launch day for $30. The second wave of DLC, featuring more story content that picks up after the main game, is scheduled to arrive on February 28, 2026.
