Streamer ProfessorRex is pushing the boundaries of gaming automation. He’s created a device that plays Pokemon Legends Z-A on its own, hoping to unlock the rare Shiny Charm.
A Twitch streamer famous for his inventive Pokémon challenges built a machine to automate a really tedious part of the game: battling 1,000 trainers for Mable’s Research. Rather than spending days doing it by hand, ProfessorRex used a modified controller—held inside a padded box to repeatedly press the A button—along with a 3D printer that automatically pressed the ZL button to keep his Pokémon focused on opponents.
The creator has set up a system where his character can continuously battle trainers inside a restaurant in Lumiose City. This automation means he can battle endlessly without much player interaction, eliminating the tedious and repetitive task that many players have found to be the most challenging part of Legends Z-A.

Fans are finding creative ways to complete Mable’s Research
Players are looking for quick ways to complete all of Mable’s research tasks, which are needed to get the Shiny Charm—an item that makes it easier to find Shiny Pokémon. Some are using the Z-A Royale to find trainers faster at night, but a new method developed by ProfessorRex is particularly complex.
A recent Pokémon setup is gaining a lot of attention online. Many fans are praising it as incredibly clever, while others are criticizing the game developers, GameFreak, for creating a repetitive gameplay experience that’s driving players to find alternative ways to enjoy the game.
ProfessorRex showed that you don’t need an expensive $700 printer to do this. All you need is a powerful Garchomp – his was level 100 in the video – and the Rocky Helmet item. With these, you can defeat every Pokémon at Restaurant Le Nah in one hit.
