Since its launch, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has faced a lot of criticism and issues. The game, which is the first for the Nintendo Switch 2, has received several updates in the past six months, but these haven’t fully satisfied fans and continue to generate debate. Players are still discovering new things to dislike about the game.
As a Pokémon fan, I’m super excited we can finally bring our old Pokémon into Pokémon Legends: Z-A! But honestly, it’s a bit of a letdown. They’re letting us transfer Pokémon using Pokémon HOME, which is cool, but it doesn’t quite work the way a lot of us were hoping it would.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Transfer Feature Is Controversial
According to official sources, Pokémon can only be transferred to Pokémon Legends: Z-A from older games – you can’t send them back. Once a Pokémon is transferred to Legends: Z-A, it stays there permanently.
Also, the list of Pokémon available in each game won’t be increasing. If a Pokémon isn’t already in a game, you won’t be able to transfer it there.
While Pokémon transferred to Pokémon Legends: Z-A aren’t permanently stuck, and can still be moved to Pokémon Champions and likely future tenth-generation games like Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, Game Freak is still making it unnecessarily difficult for players to bring their Pokémon to the newest game. This is especially frustrating considering how much Pokémon mean to players, and how long some have been transferring the same ones across generations.
Although there are likely technical reasons why Pokémon Legends: Z-A won’t connect with Pokémon HOME, it’s still frustrating for players. No one wants to worry about losing their favorite Pokémon in a game they might not like. It’s also a letdown that players will have to wait before they can battle with the new Mega Evolutions, such as Mega Garchomp Z and Mega Lucario Z, in a regular Pokémon game.
The official Pokémon website details how Pokémon Legends: Z-A will connect with Pokémon HOME. It also reminds players that linking the two games on their Nintendo Switch will give them a special gift: three free Pokémon – Alpha Chikorita, Alpha Tepig, and Alpha Totodile – as a reward for connecting all three components.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
