Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the biggest video game release in the US in nearly two and a half years. Sales figures show it performed as well as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom did when it came out in May 2023, marking the strongest boxed game sales since then.
Mat Piscatella from Circana highlighted the strong retail launch of Pokémon Legends Z-A in the US on BlueSky. This news follows The Pokémon Company’s recent announcement that the game sold 5.8 million copies in its first week. Piscatella also clarified that these US sales numbers don’t include copies that were sold as part of a bundle with the Switch 2.

When it launched in 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom quickly became a huge success, selling over 10 million copies in just three days. This is the same number of copies that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet sold when they came out in late 2022, and it’s still the biggest launch ever for a Zelda game. Just recently, The Pokémon Company announced that the entire Pokémon series has sold nearly 500 million video games.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A launched on October 16th for Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2. Players can look forward to future downloadable content called Mega Dimension. You can read a full review on TopMob, and we’ve also created a helpful guide hub for trainers exploring Lumiose City.
