A video comparing the graphics of Pokemon Legends: Z-A on the original Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 is circulating online, and many fans are disappointed with the limited improvements, particularly considering the new console will require a purchase.
The Pokemon series has faced a lot of criticism on the Nintendo Switch, largely because the games haven’t run well or looked very good. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were the most problematic, launching with significant performance issues that many believe would require the power of a next-generation console to fix.
The upcoming Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, is planned to release for both the Switch and the new Switch 2 console simultaneously. Recent gameplay reveals haven’t impressed many fans, with reactions generally considered disappointing.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Isn’t Much Better On Switch 2

So, I just watched a video from ElAnalistaDeBits comparing Pokemon Legends: Z-A on the Switch and the new Switch 2. The biggest thing I noticed was the framerate – it runs at 30fps on the original Switch, but a much smoother 60fps on the Switch 2. Plus, the new version has slightly better graphics, like improved lighting and you can see things further in the distance. It’s a noticeable upgrade!
Gamers on Reddit are expressing their disappointment with the variations between different game versions. They’re particularly upset that the Switch 2 version requires a purchase to upgrade, while Pokemon Scarlet & Violet offered their upgrade at no cost.
One player described the first version of the game on Switch as a poorly made, rushed product, calling it a “cheap asset flip” created by inexperienced developers. They contrasted this with the second Switch version, which they said was similarly low-quality but featured marginally improved graphics. Another user bluntly called it “the biggest waste of money in gaming.”
If upgrading to the new Switch model was free, people likely wouldn’t be as upset. Charging players for a performance improvement feels unfair, and it’s understandable why fans are disappointed with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s decision.
