Pokemon Go players want ability to devolve Shinies after disappointing evolutions

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Pokémon adventures under my belt, I can wholeheartedly empathize with the frustration expressed by that poor soul who evolved their Shiny Geodude into a lackluster Golem. It’s a bitter pill to swallow when your cherished Shiny loses its vibrant charm upon evolution.

In the Pokemon series, shiny Pokemon have been a feature since Generation 2. While these Pokemon often boast stunning color patterns, certain evolution stages can lead players to feel remorseful about their decision to evolve.

The initial Shiny Pokemon to make an appearance was a Shiny Gyarados, leaving every Pokemon Gold & Silver player amazed by its vibrant red form, which stood out significantly compared to the typical blue one.

Although numerous Shiny Pokemon appear stylish due to their coloring, many simply receive lighter or darker variations. Even more frustratingly, there are Shinies with captivating color schemes, but their evolutions disappointingly lack luster or go unnoticed, a fate that befell a player of Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go player regrets evolving their coveted Shiny

A user from the Pokemon Go Reddit shared the moment they evolved their very cool-looking Shiny Geodude – which resembles a Gold nugget – into Shiny Golem.

Despite high expectations, the event turned out to be rather underwhelming because the distinctions between common Golem and its Shiny variant were hardly discernible, as the latter only appeared slightly more yellow in color.

I shouldn’t have been so hasty to evolve it. 😥 I didn’t realize the colors would be less vibrant.

In simpler terms, the writer expressed remorse about quickly transforming Shiny Geodude, sparking a flood of responses from other gamers voicing their thoughts and personal anecdotes in the comments below.

A user wrote “Shiny Blissey is worst, lol. Shouldn’t have evolved Shiny Chansey”, and another replied “Sometimes the Shinies leave me thinking wtf???”, alluding to other upsetting Shiny evolutions mentioned such as Togepi, Garchomp, Plusle, and Minun.

Instead of focusing solely on the loss, some individuals opted for a more optimistic perspective by reassuring the player that they would encounter another Shiny Geodude during their journey. One even shared their personal experience, saying, “I evolved my Shiny Staryu… I was quite disheartened, but eventually, I found another one and decided never to evolve it again.

While some players take a careful approach by researching how Shinies appear before making the choice to evolve them, others act impulsively in the heat of the moment, often disregarding the possibility that they might later regret their actions.

In contrast to some other franchise games like Digimon, Pokemon lacks mechanisms or means for players to undo the evolution process of their creatures.

Some gamers have proposed that the game could benefit from features like a Shiny preview screen or a Shiny Pokedex, allowing players to examine their Shinies thoroughly before choosing to evolve them. This way, they can make well-informed decisions about their Pokemon.

In simpler terms, for the Pokedex, it won’t be excessively challenging to add this feature because we already have a method to compare normal and Shiny Pokemon, but only if you’ve captured one beforehand.
