Pokemon Go players highlight biggest failing with paid Mythical encounters

A user who plays Pokemon Go raised an issue concerning mythical appearances within the Masterwork Research, as they’ve spent nearly a year unsuccessfully pursuing a seemingly underwhelming Pokemon.

In the Niantic mobile game, Legendary Pokémon are typically discovered during 5-Star Raids, allowing players to try and capture them following a successful fight. Conversely, Mythical Pokémon can be more challenging to acquire since they often show up as rewards for finishing Special Research missions instead.

Additionally, some Special Research assignments offer guaranteed mythical experiences for players, whereas others like the Masterwork Research provide an opportunity to find a shiny one.

Discovering that the coveted Pokemon you’ve been eagerly waiting for has poor Individual Values (IVs) can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’ve tried various methods like spending money to increase your chances of obtaining it or registering one you already had.

3-Star Mythicals are a myth

A user on the Pokemon Go Reddit expressed dissatisfaction over investing money in a Masterwork Research, expecting it to yield a Shiny Shaymin. However, they discovered that the Mythical creature had only two out of the possible three stars.

What makes this particularly challenging is that the Shiny Shaymin Special Research stretched over a period of 11 months due to its difficult tasks; two of these tasks necessitated a full 21 days (each) to be successfully accomplished.

The essence of their argument is that since players are already spending money on a Shiny Mythical, the Pokemon should automatically receive a high rating as it serves as a reward. One user commented, “It should be guaranteed 3 stars. It doesn’t make sense to give out 2-star rewards instead”, while another added, “If I’m paying for it and only have one chance at obtaining it, then give me something worthwhile!”.

Although requesting a Pokemon with flawless stats might be unreasonable, many trainers argue that Niantic should upgrade the quality of paid rewards to at least 3-star Pokemon. A frustrated player put it this way: ‘While I understand the argument, it’s psychologically challenging for most players, including me, to accept anything less than a three-star Pokémon. I wouldn’t want to invest time in a Pokémon that’s just average, even if it’s my only option.’

It appears that the chances of discovering a Mythical creature with impressive statistics are quite slim, as numerous users have posted pictures of their own creatures, most of which only have 2 stars. One user even displayed more than nine of these creatures, each with low ratings.

Instead of asserting that Mythicals lack effectiveness in PvP and thus don’t require superior IVs, it’s important to consider Shaymin’s Sky Forme as an exception. This particular Pokémon is recognized as one of the top Grass-type creatures in the game, so having a Shaymin with desirable stats could certainly impact its performance.

With the upcoming introduction of Shiny Meloetta as part of the Dual Destiny season’s Masterwork Research during the Road to Unova event, it’s intriguing to consider whether Niantic will address the concerns of trainers about the low ratings they’ve been receiving by making some changes.
