Pokémon Go’s Battle League often introduces temporary challenges with unique rules, and the Electric Cup: Great League Edition is a recent example of one of these special formats for players to try out.
As a long-time Pokémon GO Battle League player, I’ve always loved the Great, Ultra, and Master Leagues. But the Electric Cup is something special! It really makes you think about team building because of all the Pokémon that aren’t allowed. You can’t just throw together your usual favorites – you have to choose the right team to actually climb the ranks, and it’s a really fun challenge.
This competition limits Pokemon to only Electric-types with a Combat Power (CP) of 1,500 or less, resulting in a small number of consistently strong choices. Here’s a breakdown of the rules, limitations, and our suggestions for the best Pokemon to use.
Best team for the Pokemon Go Electric Cup: Great League Edition

For the Electric Cup, a great team consists of Lanturn, Galvantula, and Toxtricity. These three Pokémon are powerful and cover weaknesses against many common opponents, giving you a strong advantage.
Another team that players could try out is Galvantula, Rotom, and Bellibolt.
Just like in any league or tournament, it’s hard to say which team is truly the best in the Electric Cup. It all comes down to what Pokémon your opponent uses, and you won’t find that out until the battle starts.
However, some Pokémon are consistently effective in various battles. We’ve included a list of these, along with the best moves for them and what they’re weak against.
Best Electric Cup: Great League Edition Pokemon
Ampharos

- Fast Move: Volt Switch
- Charged Moves: Brutal Swing and Trailblaze
- Type: Electric
- Resistances: Electric, Flying, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Ground
Ampharos is an Electric-type Pokémon known for its powerful attacks, even though it isn’t very fast. It can learn a variety of moves, giving it good coverage against many opponents, and consistently deals significant damage.
Volt Switch is the best quick attack, building up energy and dealing good damage. Brutal Swing is helpful against Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon, while Trailblaze is effective against Ground-types and also makes Ampharos more powerful as the battle goes on.
Electrode

- Fast Move: Volt Switch
- Charged Moves: Hyper Beam and Foul Play
- Type: Electric
- Resistances: Electric, Flying, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Ground
Electrode stands out in Pokemon Go PvP because of its incredible speed and quick attacks, which consistently force opponents to use their shields.
Volt Switch is the best Fast Move to use, dealing high damage while also building up energy quickly.
Foul Play gives Electrode more versatile attacks and can trick opponents into using their shields. Hyper Beam is a strong, general-purpose attack that deals a lot of damage.
Magnezone (Shadow)

- Fast Move: Volt Switch
- Charged Move: Wild Charge and Mirror Shot
- Type: Electric/Steel
- Resistances: Bug, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Fighting, Fire, and Ground
Magnezone is a fantastic Pokémon to use in battle thanks to its twelve resistances and strong Attack and Defense. It also has an advantage in this particular competition because many Pokémon that could easily defeat it aren’t allowed.
Choose Volt Switch as your quick attack, as it’s well-rounded and deals damage while building up energy. For powerful attacks, use both Wild Charge and Mirror Shot to maximize damage, since they both match your Pokémon’s type.
Just so you know, using Wild Charge lowers your defense by a third, but Mirror Shot has a chance to reduce your opponent’s attack power by 20%.
Rotom (Mow)

- Fast Move: Astonish
- Charged Moves: Ominous Wind and Leaf Storm
- Type: Electric/Grass
- Resistances: Electric, Grass, Steel, and Water
- Weaknesses: Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison
Rotom Mow is a special Pokémon with an Electric/Grass typing, giving it advantages against common threats like Water and Electric-type Pokémon. It excels at disrupting opponents and dealing significant damage when played strategically.
Astonish doesn’t hit very hard while preparing its stronger attacks. When it does attack with those stronger moves, Ominous Wind is a quick, less damaging option that can force opponents to use shields and potentially increase Rotom Mow’s stats. Leaf Storm, on the other hand, is a powerful attack that deals significant damage to Water, Ground, and Rock-type Pokémon, making Rotom Mow a real threat if the opponent has already used their shields.
Plusle

- Fast Move: Quick Attack
- Charged Moves: Swift and Grass Knot
- Type: Electric
- Resistances: Electric, Flying, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Ground
Plusle and Minun share a similar playstyle. Both are speedy, but not very durable, Electric-types that prioritize quick attacks and varied move options over strong defense. Plusle’s fast pace lets it use powerful Charged Moves often, keeping opponents constantly on the defensive.
Quick Attack is the best Fast Move because it builds energy quickly. Swift is commonly used for dealing steady damage and forcing opponents to use their shields, and Grass Knot helps cover weaknesses against certain Pokémon types.
Lanturn

- Fast Move: Water Gun
- Charged Moves: Surf and Thunderbolt
- Type: Water/Electric
- Resistances: Fire, Flying, Ice, Steel, and Water
- Weaknesses: Grass and Ground
As a fan, I’m really excited about Lanturn in the Electric Cup! It’s a big Pokémon, but that Water/Electric typing is amazing. It can basically dominate other Water-types – both taking them down and surviving their attacks, which is a huge advantage.
For reliable damage and quick energy building, Water Gun is the best Fast Move. Lanturn’s primary Charged Move should be Surf, as it allows for continuous shield pressure. Thunderbolt is a valuable secondary move, delivering powerful Electric-type damage against Water and Flying-type Pokémon that might otherwise switch in without risk.
Pawmot

- Fast Move: Low Kick
- Charged Moves: Brick Break and Close Combat
- Type: Electric/Fighting
- Resistances: Bug, Dark, Electric, Rock, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Fairy, Ground, and Psychic
Pawmot might not seem intimidating, but this Electric/Fighting-type Pokémon is surprisingly aggressive. It excels at quickly using powerful Charged Moves and putting opponents on the defensive. While it isn’t very durable, its unique type combination and diverse moves give it an advantage against many common Pokémon.
Low Kick allows Pawmot to quickly charge up its powerful moves. Brick Break is used to force opponents to use their shields, and then Close Combat delivers a strong, cost-effective attack when those shields are gone, dealing significant damage.
Thundurus (Incarnate Forme Shadow)

- Fast Move: Astonish
- Charged Moves: Crunch and Brick Break
- Type: Electric/Flying
- Resistances: Bug, Fighting, Flying, Grass, Steel, and Ground
- Weaknesses: Ice and Rock
Thundurus (Incarnate Forme) is a powerful Legendary Pokémon built to deal damage quickly. It uses a variety of moves to hit different types of opponents effectively, and while it’s not incredibly durable, its strengths let it perform well in many battles.
Astonish creates energy and weakens enemies. Crunch is a powerful attack that hits a variety of Pokémon and can also lower their defense. Brick Break is a low-cost move that can trick opponents into using their shields and maintain consistent offense.
Raikou

- Fast Move: Thunder Shock
- Charged Moves: Shadow Ball and Aura Sphere
- Type: Electric
- Resistances: Electric, Flying, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Ground
Legendary Pokémon aren’t typically strong choices in the Electric Cup because of the CP restrictions, but Raikou is a powerful exception and a great Pokémon to include on your team.
Unlocking a second Charged Move for Raikou will cost a significant amount of resources. However, if you have the resources, the best combination is Thunder Shock as a Fast Move, paired with Shadow Ball and Aura Sphere as Charged Moves. This setup provides the best balance of damage output and coverage against different Pokémon types.
Minun

- Fast Move: Quick Attack
- Charged Moves: Swift and Grass Knot
- Type: Electric
- Resistances: Electric, Flying, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Ground
Minun is a speedy Electric-type Pokémon that relies on quick attacks and disrupting opponents with Charged Moves, rather than dealing massive damage. It’s not very durable, but its speed lets it constantly pressure its foes.
Quick Attack is the best Fast Move because it builds energy quickly. Swift is great for dealing steady damage and forcing your opponent to use shields, and Grass Knot is useful for hitting Ground-type Pokémon that resist Electric attacks.
Bellibolt

- Fast Move: Sucker Punch
- Charged Moves: Parabolic Charge and Zap Cannon
- Type: Electric
- Resistances: Steel, Flying, and Electric
- Weaknesses: Ground
Bellibolt is a purely Electric-type Pokémon with solid stats, particularly high Stamina, and access to a strong variety of moves.
Thunder Shock creates a lot of energy, but Sucker Punch helps Bellibolt hit a wider range of opponents, deal solid damage, and also generate some energy.
The Pokémon should learn Parabolic Charge, which boosts its own Defense by 25%, and Zap Cannon, a powerful attack that lowers the opponent’s Attack by 20%.
Toxtricity

- Fast Move: Acid
- Charged Moves: Wild Charge and Power-Up Punch
- Type: Electric/Poison
- Resistances: Bug, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Flying, Grass, Poison, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Ground and Psychic
Toxtricity from Generation 8 is a valuable team member, especially against Bug, Electric, and Grass-type Pokémon. But what really makes it stand out is the wide range of moves it can learn.
When choosing a Fast Move, Acid is best because it’s quick and effective against Grass-type Pokémon. For Charged Moves, Power-Up Punch is a good choice – it’s fast to use, hits a wide range of Pokémon, and can trick your opponent into using their shields.
End battles with Wild Charge to quickly defeat Water-type Pokémon using powerful Electric attacks. Just be aware that it lowers your Defense by a significant amount – about 33.3%.
Rotom

- Fast Move: Astonish
- Charged Moves: Thunderbolt and Ominous Wind
- Type: Electric/Ghost
- Resistances: Fighting, Normal, Bug, Electric, Flying, Poison, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Dark, Ghost, and Ground
Rotom is a clever Pokémon with an Electric/Ghost typing, making it surprisingly durable and versatile in battle. Its unique type combination lets it withstand a lot of damage, particularly from Fighting and Normal-type attacks, and gives it a wide range of moves it can use effectively.
Astonish deals consistent damage and builds up energy, allowing Rotom to use its powerful Charged Moves more often. Thunderbolt is its primary attack, delivering significant Electric-type damage. Ominous Wind provides coverage against Ghost-types and has a chance to boost Rotom’s stats, potentially shifting the battle in your favor when it activates.
Hisuian Electrode

- Fast Move: Thunder Shock
- Charged Moves: Energy Ball and Swift
- Type: Electric/Grass
- Resistances: Electric, Grass, Steel, and Water
- Weaknesses: Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison
Hisuian Electrode hasn’t been a top pick in Pokemon Go battles since it was released in early 2022. However, it’s now proving its strength in the Electric Cup, where it’s a powerful contender.
For your Fast Move, pick Thunder Shock – it deals extra damage with STAB and builds energy quickly. Then, combine that with Energy Ball for a strong, high-energy attack and Swift for a versatile, quick move that can catch opponents off guard. This combination gives you a well-rounded and effective moveset.
Galvantula

- Fast Move: Fury Cutter
- Charged Moves: Lunge and Cross Poison
- Type: Bug/Electric
- Resistances: Electric, Fighting, Grass, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Fire and Rock
Galvantula is a speedy Pokémon that focuses on applying pressure and weakening opponents, rather than having a lot of health. It can’t withstand many attacks, but it quickly overwhelms foes by repeatedly using powerful moves and gradually wearing them down.
Fury Cutter is the best Fast Move for Galvantula because it generates energy very quickly, letting it use its powerful Charged Moves more often.
The main attack to use is Lunge, as it damages opponents and weakens their attack power. Cross Poison is a quick, low-cost alternative that can be used repeatedly to force opponents to defend and potentially increase its own attack power.
