GameStop tried to call out Walmart for issues with people reselling Pokemon cards at inflated prices, but it didn’t go well. Fans quickly pointed out that GameStop has similar problems with its own trading card sales.
GameStop’s official X account responded to a post showing someone buying a large quantity of Pokémon booster packs and tins. They wrote, “There’s nothing fun about seeing someone clear out all the product while kids can’t find any.” They explained that purchase limits are in place to prevent this and suggested Walmart should implement similar restrictions.
Although the playful comment about Walmart became popular, the responses to GameStop’s post were mostly negative. Fans complained that the company was charging too much for trading cards, allowing limited-edition items to be bought up by resellers, and setting purchase limits that weren’t high enough to meet demand, leaving many customers unable to buy what they wanted.
It’s heartbreaking to see someone buying up all the Pokémon cards while kids are left with nothing. That’s why stores have limits on how much people can buy, and Walmart should too.

Fans call out GameStop “hypocrisy”
One customer complained that the store was overcharging for trading card games, especially considering its branding as being ‘for gamers.’ They pointed out that even Walmart sells these cards at the standard retail price. Others brought up problems with recent Pokémon Scarlet & Violet promo codes and alleged that employees were holding back products from customers.
The initial criticism quickly escalated into widespread condemnation, with people bringing up long-standing complaints about GameStop’s trade-in prices and the difficulty of finding Pokémon products in stock. As one popular comment highlighted, GameStop’s attempt to criticize someone backfired spectacularly, and they ended up being the target of the criticism instead.
The Mega Evolutions set launched on September 26, 2025, with more than 180 new cards and a brand-new rarity level called Mega Hyper Rare. Collectors are especially eager to find the Mega Hyper Rare versions of Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex, as they’re much harder to find than similar rare cards from previous sets. These cards feature a gold finish, special artwork, and are incredibly rare, making them likely to be the most valuable cards in the entire set.
