Pokemon calls 2026 its “best year yet” for 30th anniversary as Gen 10 speculation grows

As a huge Pokémon fan, I’m getting so excited! They’re already hinting at a massive 30th anniversary celebration, which is awesome. Even though we haven’t heard anything about a potential Generation 10 yet, it sounds like next year is going to be incredible for all of us!

In 2025, the release of Pokémon Legends Z-A in October was the biggest news, though the game’s post-launch downloadable content proved divisive. While the game, which focused on the Kalos region, sold well, some players felt it was too limited in scope. Throughout the year, Pokémon GO continued to receive updates, live events remained popular, and competitive battling thrived, even as there were fewer major announcements about core Pokémon games.

So, things were getting pretty intense, but then Pokémon just dropped a quick post on social media and totally changed what everyone was talking about. It was a subtle move, but it worked!

Pokemon 30th anniversary tease sets the tone for 2026

The Pokemon Company announced on X that they’ll be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original Pokemon Red and Green games on February 27, 2026. They also hinted at exciting things to come, saying they believe the next year will be their best yet.

As a huge Pokémon fan, it feels like everything is happening at once right now! The DLC for Legends Z-A just finished, and everyone’s already talking about what’s coming next – Generation 10! Leaks are popping up everywhere, even before official announcements. We’re all on the edge of our seats, wondering if Pokémon will celebrate a big milestone with an event, a brand new game, or maybe even both!

Looking ahead to 2026, the gaming calendar seems less packed and more focused. Currently, only two games have confirmed release dates: Pokemon Champions, a battle game for Switch, Switch 2, and mobile devices, and Pokopia, a relaxing life simulation game exclusive to the Switch 2.

Looking ahead, Pokémon is focusing on games that are constantly updated and offer ongoing experiences. For example, they’ve already announced Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos for 2026, which will include live, in-person events as well as a worldwide online component.

Throughout the year, major competitive events will be held, including the Europe Internationals in London this February, the North America Internationals in New Orleans in June, and numerous regional competitions around the globe.

We’re still waiting for official news about Generation 10 of Pokémon. While rumors point to a release in February 2026, Pokémon hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

I’m so excited – it’s not just about the games! McDonald’s is bringing back Pokemon Trading Card Game cards in Happy Meals around Pokemon Day, and they’ll be available throughout February and March of 2026. That’s awesome!
