Currently, “Path of Exile 2” ranks as one of the top games in the market, going toe-to-toe with “Diablo 4”, despite being in Early Access. Developers at Grinding Gear Games are gearing up to roll out the first update, offering balance adjustments, among other enhancements. While the Action Role-Playing Game isn’t flawless yet, some enthusiasts have acknowledged that it exceeds its initial version.
On the other hand, there are individuals who still frequently return to the game, “Path of Exile,” which was first released in 2013, and eagerly anticipate a fresh update. However, some players express concern about whether an update will be forthcoming at all.
“Let’s be honest. They don’t know what’s going to happen to PoE1”
The discussion initiates with a Reddit user expressing concern about the lack of recent updates on Path of Exile, as the last patch was released in July of the preceding year. In October, it was revealed that update 3.26 would be postponed until early 2025, with a tentative release date in late January.
After a month, Jonathan Rogers and Mark Roberts mentioned that the update is expected towards the end of February, since then there has been no news, at least regarding Path of Exile. It’s not surprising that fans are anxious about the original version’s future, especially given how swiftly the sequel received an update.
It appears that despite the fact that the development of “PoE 2” is being fully funded by players who have supported their favorite game for years, it seems to be in a maintenance phase, contrary to our expectation that both “PoE1” would still be developed and updated.

The creator of the initial post mentions that the ongoing 3.25 league in Path of Exile has been running for a staggering 170 days now, compared to the usual average of 90 days. Given Grinding Gear Games’ current emphasis on developing Path of Exile 2, there’s a possibility that the eagerly anticipated update could be delayed even longer. Additionally, the relatively high barrier to entry for PoE 2 might discourage some long-term fans as well.
It appears that “PoE 2” isn’t my cup of tea, and I suspect others share this sentiment. Engaging with the game and playing it often feels more like work rather than enjoyment, as one must maintain a high level of concentration at all times.

At present, several elements of gameplay in Poe 2, such as atlas mechanics, map designs, crafting system, gem/skill setup, seem less appealing compared to their counterparts in Poe 1. Consequently, the endgame experience is becoming monotonous and uninteresting. Therefore, for now, I plan on continuing with Poe 1.

Other analysts believe we might need to hold off for further announcements, and GGG themselves aren’t definitive about the release date of update 3.26. Considering the large number of players who cherish memories from the initial installment, it seems premature to consider the “conclusion” of PoE as something that would make sense at this point.
Path of Exile is often considered a “seasonal” game, where players engage with it for about 1-2 months, then tend to step away until a new league is launched. Maintaining support for both games simultaneously would seem to be their optimal choice. If each game features a 4-month league cycle, they could effectively dominate the Action Role-Playing Game (ARPG) genre by launching a new league every 2 months, keeping players consistently engaged.

It’s likely that GGG is unaware that players who have only played “PoE 1” are unlikely to transition to “PoE 2” without significant alterations in the game design approach, particularly regarding the difficulty level labeled as “Ruthless.” Even if these players completely abandon “PoE 1,” it’s more likely they will shift to another challenging game like “LE” instead of opting for “PoE 2.”
– Fenris1970
Is it possible that the first segment will indeed receive a fresh season, or could it be that speculations thrive and Game Guidance Group (GGG) is intentionally prolonging the update? We’ll find out more as we approach the stated end of January or February.
