As a seasoned Path of Exile 2 adventurer with countless hours spent navigating the treacherous lands of Wraeclast, I must say that the Molten Vault has proven to be quite the challenge – even for someone like myself who’s faced down Uber Elders and fought their way through Atlas bosses. The fight against Mektul the Forgemaster was initially a thrilling test of skill and strategy, but alas, it seems that Grinding Gear Games has inadvertently forged a bug into this particular encounter.
Path of Exile 2, a tough contender in the Diablo series arena, has just kicked off its early access release. Initially, there were server glitches, co-op collapses, and performance troubles, but it appears that everything is now running smoothly, enabling players to re-immerse themselves in the game. However, this smooth sailing ends when they encounter Mektul the Forgemaster in the Molten Vault, where a pesky bug can potentially spoil the battle.

In Act 3 of Path of Exile 2, Oswald assigns you the task of investigating the Molten Vault in the Treasures of Utzaal mission. Upon discovering the monkey statues, you’ll be granted access to the vault. Close to the checkpoint, you’ll face a lava river that can only be halted by vanquishing Mektul the Forgemaster. The battle is time-sensitive, as the lava progressively floods the area and eventually results in your character’s demise if not dealt with promptly.
Your leader tends to move at a somewhat leisurely pace, making it feasible to attack from a distance without much trouble. You can use this opportunity to land ranged assaults while still engaging in melee combat. As you steadily decrease his health, Mektul may periodically dive into the lava to launch unique attacks. To handle this situation effectively, avoid the fireballs, wait for him to resurface, and attempt to stun him so that you can gain the advantage.
The real problem with this fight is when Mektul gets stuck in the upper half of the lava and dies there. This prevents you from accessing the loot he drops, including the Hammer of Kamas, which is crucial for completing the Treasures of Utzaal quest. Even if you use a portal to return to the area, you won’t be able to access it again, as the crane that lowers you into the river stops functioning. So, until this bug is fixed, try to lure the boss out of the lava, and defeat him on the ground.
