The long-awaited second part of the Final Fantasy VII remakes series, titled “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth,” is now available for PC play. As compared to its PS5 version, this game has undergone various technical enhancements. Unfortunately, PC users won’t find mod support among its new features.
FF7 Rebirth director, Naoki Hamaguchi, on mod support in FF7 Rebirth
Square Enix’s stance on mods appears to be complex, as suggested by a recent discussion during an interview with Epic Games. In the conversation, FF7 Rebirth director, Naoki Hamaguchi, expressed an opinion that may not have been well-received among players.
Although our team currently doesn’t intend to officially endorse in-game modifications, we admire the ingenuity of the modding community and encourage their efforts. However, we kindly request that mod creators avoid developing or installing any content deemed offensive or inappropriate.
In a later part of the interview with AUTOMATON, Hamaguchi made it clear that his previous statements should not be taken as an attempt to dissuade individuals from adding modifications to the game. He even admitted that on occasion, he personally employs such modifications.
As someone who plays games on PC, I sometimes use mods myself.
Mod support in Final Fantasy Rebirth explained
Essentially, Square Enix doesn’t endorse or officially sanction the creation of mods for FF7 Rebirth. Nonetheless, it’s important to note that the absence of official support doesn’t preclude the development of modifications. Instead, installing and managing these mods might prove to be a more challenging process.
Currently, online you can discover a mod for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth offering ultrawide support as one of the earliest available customizations for this game. Keep in mind that this project is still under development, so the creator continues to work on it. As time goes by, more modifications are expected to emerge. For now, be patient and stay tuned for future updates.
