Although a new Pikmin game isn’t expected in the near future, an update is coming to Pikmin 4 that should excite fans and bring them back to the game.
Pikmin 4 will receive an update this November with exciting new features, including a camera mode and adjustable difficulty settings to cater to players of all skill levels.
Pikmin 4’s new Field Camera lets players take pictures within the game and personalize them with things like stamps, frames, and filters. While Pikmin 3 also had a camera, this new version feels more similar to the camera features found in many recent games.
So, they’ve added what they’re calling “Creature Difficulty Levels,” but really it’s just different difficulty settings. If I’m just chilling and want to explore, I can switch to Relaxed mode and enemies won’t bother me unless I start something, and even then they’ll be easier to beat. But if I’m feeling confident and want a real challenge – I’ve played a lot of Pikmin, you know? – Fierce mode ramps up the difficulty. It’s perfect for us veterans!
One of the most charming features of Pikmin 4 is the addition of Decor Pikmin, originally from the mobile game Pikmin Bloom. You’ll encounter Pikmin wearing fun accessories like ladybug costumes, doughnuts, or even ice cream hats! While these decorated Pikmin don’t have any special powers, they’re incredibly cute, and you can even send them back to Pikmin Bloom.
You can try Pikmin 4 with a free demo, and it will receive updates at the same time as the complete game. However, Nintendo hasn’t announced any improvements to the game for the Switch 2, so it doesn’t look like a special version for the new console is planned.
Nintendo recently announced an upcoming update shortly after releasing a strange animated short film called “Close to you.” The first version of the video, created by Nintendo Pictures, didn’t immediately appear to be related to Pikmin. However, a second version was quickly released that included Pikmin characters.
The video sparked a lot of guesses about a potential new Pikmin game or even a movie, but it turned out to be a standalone project from Nintendo Pictures. Along with news about an update to Pikmin 4, Nintendo also shared the complete “Close to You” video – including both versions of the short – on YouTube.
