Philadelphia airport breaks world record with 1,291-foot cheesesteak line

Philadelphia International Airport recently set a new Guinness World Record by creating a massive line of Philly cheesesteaks – a total of 1,291 sandwiches!

Philadelphia International Airport marked National Cheesesteak Day on March 24th with an attempt to create the longest line of cheesesteaks ever. They assembled the sandwiches on tables in the walkway connecting Terminals B and C.

I was so impressed to hear that over 100 people pitched in to make this happen! And it wasn’t just people – even some of my favorite airport restaurants like Geno’s Steaks, Chickie’s & Pete’s, and Jim’s South St Famous Cheesesteaks helped out. It was a real team effort!

990 lbs of steak and 225 lbs of cheese sauce were used

Okay, so this sandwich-making competition was insane! The old record was 500, but we absolutely crushed it. Guinness official Michael Empric actually confirmed we made 1,291 sandwiches – and get this, they stretched over 1,200 feet long! We officially broke the world record, which is pretty awesome.

To confirm the record attempt, each roll needed to be connected, and all the food used had to be consumed or given away. “Luckily,” Empiric explained, “the food is going to TSA agents who could really use a meal.”

Cheesesteaks were provided to airport employees, such as TSA officers, who haven’t been paid because of the ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security.

Pete Ciarrocchio, CEO of Chickie’s & Pete’s, shared his excitement about breaking a world record in the Philadelphia Enquirer. He said it was fantastic to achieve the record, but he was especially pleased to provide cheesesteaks to TSA workers. He explained that Philadelphia is known as the ‘City of Brotherly Love,’ and he wanted to support these workers who were currently working without pay.
