Today, Kinetic Games, creators of the multiplayer paranormal investigation game Phasmophobia, have unveiled their upcoming content Roadmap for the remainder of 2025. This year’s updates will feature a revamp of player character aesthetics, a fresh small map, and the reintroduction of seasonal events. These developments are thrilling news for fans of Phasmophobia, but remember that the game is continually being refined, so elements may shift as development continues.
Phasmophobia devs lay out roadmap for content updates throughout 2025
In 2020, the indie game Phasmophobia debuted on Steam’s Early Access, and since then, it has received frequent updates, including its release on consoles in October of last year. As I write this on a typical Tuesday, there are more than 24,000 players currently engaged in the game on Steam. It is safe to say that Phasmophobia is not just a success, but a phenomenon. The Steam page indicates that the game has garnered over 600,000 user reviews, with an impressive 96% of those reviews being positive. Finding a game on Steam with such widespread acclaim is quite uncommon.
Major Updates
2025 sees Kinetic Games planning two significant updates. The first one, dubbed “The Chronicle Update,” focuses on enhancing the way players collect and get rewarded for evidence. This includes a journal feature where players can jot down their discoveries, which will now include a media tab to store photos, videos, and audio recordings from the new Sound Recorder device. However, an exact release date for this update hasn’t been announced yet.
In addition to the significant changes slated for 2025, Kinetic Games will be enhancing the player characters in Phasmophobia. This revamp includes updating character models, optimizing animations, and fine-tuning the overall gaming experience associated with your character within the game. However, it’s important to note that this update won’t offer full character customization. Kinetic Games is aiming to release a player customization feature in 2026 as well.
Minor Updates
As a gamer, I’m excitedly looking forward to the fact that our Phasmophobia crew is cooking up something fresh this year – a new map! Details are scarce for now, but here’s what we know so far. It’s going to be compact, similar in size to the houses we’ve been exploring thus far. The developers hinted that they aim to make future maps smaller, which means more frequent releases for us players to enjoy!
This year, there will be substantial updates on old maps. Specifically, Bleasdale Farmhouse is set for a comprehensive revamp and is scheduled for launch in March. Following this, Grafton Farmhouse and 6 Tanglewood Drive will also undergo renovations later in the year. The team has promised that these updates will feature complete artistic makeovers with new elements and animations, enhanced visual detail, and some layout modifications. Despite the changes, they assured us that the essence of each map will remain, as you’ll still recognize them from your past explorations.
The team is planning on bringing back our seasonal events, taking into account the feedback from last year’s celebrations. The Blood Moon cult’s Halloween event and Winter’s Jest with Krampus are set to return. However, they hinted that this year’s Easter event will offer a fresh perspective. Further details about the new Easter event will be shared in April as we get closer to the celebration.
For the moment, that’s it. Kinetic Games will keep you informed about their future strategies, including the imminent Horror 2.0 upgrade, marking the day when the game officially graduates from Early Access.
