PewDiePie reveals how he ‘fixed’ YouTube’s algorithm using his own AI

PewDiePie was annoyed with YouTube’s constant stream of Shorts and ads, so he decided to try and improve the platform’s recommendations using his own artificial intelligence.

In late 2025, popular YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, known as PewDiePie, created his own AI by having different chatbots compete against each other. The resulting AI performed better than both ChatGPT-4 and Deepseek.

He’s now using the platform to disconnect from the constant distractions of social media. He claims he was able to adjust YouTube’s settings to show him content he actually wants to see.

PewDiePie takes YouTube’s algorithm into his own hands

On March 17th, PewDiePie shared a video detailing how he used AI to build a browser extension. This extension automatically blocks YouTube Shorts and opens his subscription feed whenever he visits the YouTube website.

I was blown away when I saw what PewDiePie’s AI extension does! It actually cleans up the whole YouTube viewing experience – it gets rid of all those suggested videos and extra stuff in the sidebar. He even showed a split-screen comparison with the normal YouTube site, and the difference was incredible! It really streamlines everything and makes watching videos so much cleaner.

Surprisingly, PewDiePie found that on the standard YouTube layout, he had to scroll past a lot of suggested videos before he could even see the comments on a video. His browser extension, however, put the comments right under the video itself.

Honestly, I’m so annoyed by Shorts taking over everything! It feels like you can’t go anywhere on YouTube without running into them. I was just saying to myself, if I was in charge of the site, I’d give people the option to turn them off. Seriously, Google, can we please just have a way to disable Shorts if we want to?

The YouTuber confessed that although he built his own AI tool for this purpose, a similar extension called ‘Unhook’ is already available for users to install.

PewDiePie has been gradually distancing himself from social media, and this is his newest move. After unfollowing everyone on Instagram and setting up a new account just to check his profiles, he’s realized the negative impact of endless scrolling and wants to avoid getting caught up in the cycle of seeking quick rewards.

He admitted that being constantly online affects how we think. He suggested it’s a trade-off we’ve all reluctantly accepted – we recognize the internet isn’t good for us, but we continue to use it anyway.

Since taking a step back from daily videos and becoming a father to Bjorn, PewDiePie has been exploring various projects. Recently, he teamed up with the animators behind the popular anime series Attack on Titan at WiT Studio for a surprising collaboration.
