PewDiePie explains why playing video games isn’t a “valuable” use of his time anymore

Okay, so PewDiePie – Felix Kjellberg – just said something that really surprised me! Apparently, after ten-plus years of being the gaming guy on YouTube, he doesn’t really feel like playing video games is a good use of his time anymore. It sounds like he’s moving on from that part of his content, which is a little sad, but also cool to see him evolving!

PewDiePie, now 36, has been focusing more on lifestyle videos lately, showing his life in Japan with his wife, Marzia, and their son, Björn. He occasionally plays games like GeoGuessr or Poppy Playtime, but he no longer streams long gaming sessions like he used to.

In his newsletter, Kjellberg shared that becoming a father drastically altered how he perceives and uses his time.

Becoming a dad has totally changed how I look at things. Every minute feels so much more precious now! I could still find time to play video games if I really wanted to, but honestly, with everything else going on, I’d rather spend my free time doing other things. It’s just a shift in priorities, you know?

PewDiePie says learning is more valuable to him than gaming

PewDiePie still plays games occasionally, around 30 minutes at a time, but he doesn’t spend hours on end with one game anymore. He’s realized he used to dedicate too much time to YouTube and gaming, and wants to focus on learning new skills instead.

He realized he’d been spending too much time on YouTube and video games and hadn’t focused on personal growth. Now, he’s motivated to learn and improve himself.

People often think I just have all the time in the world to learn everything when I show off a new game or project, but honestly, it’s not like that at all. It’s usually a lot simpler than you’d think!

I’m aware my time is limited, so I prioritize what matters most to me. Seeing a positive reaction from others confirms I’m making the right choices with how I spend it.

Even though he’s scaled back his gaming activity, PewDiePie hasn’t stopped being involved in the gaming world. Recently, he supported the Stop Killing Games campaign, which asks game developers to keep online games running even after they stop actively updating them.
