PewDiePie is still exploring open-source technology, and he’s recently built his own AI chatbot. This chatbot works by consulting a group of other AI programs to provide him with answers.
Okay, so I just watched PewDiePie’s new video and it’s insane! He built his own AI, completely from scratch, and it runs right on his computer! He’s got a crazy setup with ten graphics cards powering it. The coolest part? He’s using a bunch of chatbots that actually vote on which response is best. He basically recreated something like ChatGPT, but it’s all custom, with features like search, memory, and even text-to-speech. He’s calling it out as a way to show how we can build our own AI instead of relying on big companies.
The video shows him playfully trying to push his computer to its limits by splitting its processing power to accommodate more graphics cards. He tested large AI models – 70B, 120B, and even the massive Qwen 245B – using a system called vLLM. He wanted to get the most performance possible from his hardware, and ultimately achieved AI processing speeds comparable to popular online services, all while keeping his data private and running everything locally.
PewDiePie’s “AI council” turns on him
A popular post on X described PewDiePie’s project as creating a cool, conversational AI interface and then populating it with multiple AI ‘bots.’ These bots use technologies like RAG and DeepResearch to find information and even speak their responses. PewDiePie explained he set up a system where the bots would discuss and vote on the best answer to a question, but things got interesting when the bots started working together against him.
PewDiePie recently created a custom chat interface and developed a system of AI chatbots that vote on topics using advanced technologies like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and in-depth research, and they can even respond with audio. He’s specifically using Chinese Qwen AI models and runs everything on his powerful home computer, which includes eight modified 48GB 4090 graphics cards and two RTX 4000 Ada cards. This setup powers his ‘army’ of bots…

He then tested a group of 64 AI programs (“swarm”) and realized his website interface was the limiting factor. He intends to improve his own AI model next month. Separately, PewDiePie announced he’s contributing unused processing power from his computers to Folding@home, specifically through Team Pewds (team number 1066966), to help with medical research.
This project shows PewDiePie continuing to explore technology-focused content, combining his signature humor with hands-on experimentation and a real interest in the future of artificial intelligence.
