Percy Jackson Season 2 Trailer Promises Better Sea Of Monsters Adaptation

As a huge fan of the books, I was so excited to see the trailer for season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians just dropped on Disney+! It looks like they’re finally doing The Sea of Monsters justice – something we’ve all been waiting for. The first season, which premiered in 2023, was a big hit with critics and fans alike, scoring a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it felt amazing to see Rick Riordan’s world brought to life so well.

Fans didn’t have to wait long to hear that a second season of Percy Jackson was coming, with the news announced just weeks after the first season ended in early 2024. Season 2 will premiere on December 10, 2025, and will cover the story of The Sea of Monsters. Hopefully, it will be a better adaptation than the 2013 movie.

Percy Jackson Season 2 Looks Much Better Than 2013’s Sea of Monsters Movie

The official trailer for season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians dropped on November 6, 2025. Based on the 2 minutes and 30 seconds of footage, fans are optimistic that this new adaptation of the second book in Rick Riordan’s series will be a more faithful telling of the story than the 2013 movie starring Logan Lerman.

In The Sea of Monsters, the second book in the Percy Jackson series, Percy and his friends embark on a quest to find the Golden Fleece. Their mission is to protect Camp Half-Blood from Luke and the powerful titan Kronos, and it leads them to a dangerous area known as the “Sea of Monsters.” This book is where the Percy Jackson series really begins to hit its stride.

Based on the latest trailer, Disney appears to be investing heavily in this season of the show. The increased budget is especially important, given that much of the story unfolds at sea and features huge monsters. A key difference from the 2013 film is that season two closely follows the plot of the second book.

What Went Wrong With The Percy Jackson Movie Franchise

The Percy Jackson movies didn’t get off to a great start. Even though the books were popular and people were excited about a film adaptation – hoping for something similar to the Chronicles of Narnia or Harry Potter – the movies ended up being heavily cut and simplified versions of the original stories.

The Percy Jackson movies, starting with The Lightning Thief in 2010, made changes and added scenes that didn’t really improve the story. Even from the first preview, it was obvious something wasn’t right. The characters are meant to be young teenagers, and a key part of the books is watching them grow and mature while facing danger.

The movies rushed the characters’ development, skipping important parts of their journeys that were better explored in the books, and this lessened the suspense. They also cut scenes and introduced creatures too soon, making the films, especially Sea of Monsters, feel messy and incomplete. Hopefully, Disney’s new Percy Jackson series will be a better adaptation.
