Amazon’s new James Bond film is actively in development. Director Denis Villeneuve, known for Dune and Blade Runner 2049, will be leading the project. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the script after recently completing the Peaky Blinders movie for Netflix. Because of Knight’s involvement, several actors who have worked with him previously are now considered top contenders for roles in the film, and one has even publicly expressed interest in playing the next Bond villain.
First airing in 2013, Peaky Blinders centers on Thomas ‘Tommy’ Shelby, the ruthless head of a criminal gang in Birmingham, England, in 1919. The show concluded with its sixth season in 2022, but Tommy Shelby’s story will continue in this month’s Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. Because of his work on the series with creator Steven Knight, Cillian Murphy – who has long been a popular choice to play James Bond – is now a leading contender to play the next iconic villain.

Netflix
Cillian Murphy, who recently won an Oscar for Oppenheimer, didn’t reveal much when MovieWeb asked if he’d consider working with Steven Knight again on a new James Bond film. However, his Immortal Man co-star was more willing to discuss the possibility…
Cillian Murphy mentioned that Steve Knight is very private and avoids making comments, but Knight has already agreed to participate.
Barry Keoghan: So, I’ll do it, Steve, I’ll do it. I’ll do Bond villain.
While Cillian Murphy is currently the frontrunner to be the next James Bond villain, many are also excited by the possibility of Barry Keoghan taking on a similar role in a future spy thriller, perhaps directed by Denis Villeneuve. Keoghan has already proven he can play a compelling villain in films like The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Saltburn, and his memorable appearance as the Joker in The Batman – a role he’s expected to reprise. He certainly has the talent to be a truly formidable opponent for Bond.
While fans are still waiting for news about the new James Bond movie from Amazon, Barry Keoghan will be playing another intriguing villain in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. He’ll star as Erasmus “Duke” Shelby, the previously unknown son of Tommy Shelby, and the film brings Tommy out of retirement during World War II. He’s forced to deal with his past and what he’s become. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man has already received positive reviews after premiering in Birmingham, England, and will be in select theaters on March 6th, followed by a release on streaming services on March 20th.
